A visit to the Old City
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 5th, 2008, 11:06pm
they arrived at the city, landing on one of the lower platforms, she shifts first, then Nraith shifts as well. she rushes inside. "Where are you going Aer'alyn?" she didn't answer, she just moved quickly along the hall and onto a platform, she paused and turned to see Nraith standing there "Well are you coming?" He grinned and nods and steps onto the platform with her. she presses a button and it begins to go down. "Where are we going?" she shrugs "I don't know" something else was driving her now.
It seemed to go farther and farther down than they thought it could and a glance to each other as it continued. finally it stopped and it was clearly at the bottom of this lift. she stepped off and Nraith followed. pausing she inhales deeply -^the air is old down here^- he nods -^None have been here for many centuries^- they moved slowly down the hall. she was leading the way, though she didn't know where exactly she was going, but something inside was leading her along.
They had been quiet for some time when they finally arrived a two very large solid oak doors, her hands touched them, slowly and carefully caressing them, she didn't say anything, but pushes through the doors and a few steps in she stops.. the walls were covered in books. shelf after shelf.. she stood there in awe

here down below the surface they were cut off. something about the rocks and earth made sensing their presence by any other being nearly impossible, but neither could they sense any other's presence.
Aer'alyn started looking through the books rather quickly "What are you looking for?" came Nraith's question, didn't he already ask that? What answer did she give? she didn't see a need to answer it once more. Nraith watched her curiously, and with her lack of response he didn't ask again only chuckled slightly which got another look from her and a slight grin before she turned back to her search. It seemed like hours had passed before she spoke - though she used Mindspeak, it was uncomfortable speaking as a human in this form "There is a book that gives an account of the humans just before the great war that killed them. It tells how the fear started, how the betrayal happened, and who started it" Nraith blinks at her words "And you would know this how" she shrugs "I don't know, I think an ancestor had seen it and I'm remembering what she knew" it was that simple right? probably not, but she didn't fight it. It seemed it was time for something to happen.
she paused and nods "Here it is" she pulls it out. It was thick and she takes it and sits in one of the large chairs she opens it and begins to read it. It was as though she'd read it before. skimming through it, searching for something. Nraith read through her eyes, touching her mind and reading what she read before he came and sat on the arm of the chair looking to the pages as she skimmed over them. About 1/2 way through the book she stopped and started reading
"It was during this time, the last great war, that Keraith and Safferon came together. Dragons of great power and love. They formed the last of the great clans" she smiled in thought, her kin came from one of their clutches "They made vow that none of their descendants would adhere to what was now, to the ways that changed the lands forever. They would hold the lives of Dragon and human dear, for both are valuable and necessary to the survival of this world"
she blinks and looks to Nraith "Do you know what that means?" he nods "If they know you have seen the words they will seek to kill you before you can remind them of their ancestor's words, to which they must hold" she nods and folds the book, setting it back to where it was. It was oddly marked to that she would remember it and that none would suspect it was that book.
she rose "We must remind them" he touched her arm and shook his head "Not yet" a gentle sight left her lips and she shook her head before she paused as they both heard a sound that seemed to come from much deeper. They looked to each other "It's time to go" Nraith didn't take no for an answer and he tugged her out, pausing only to close the door, taking the lamp with them they made their way to the lift. she looked down the hall that seemed to disappear into the darkness - there was something there and now it knew they were there and had been there.
the lift started up and she tapped her toes a little in nervousness. It would end one day, they would be reminded of their obligation and the vow of their ancestors. A vow written in blood and signed by each - as best a dragon could sign anything. a mark was left that each had agreed to it. The elders must remember.
she knew not all would comply, she knew not all were of that lineage, but enough were that it could make a significant change.
Aer'alyn let out a sigh of relief as the lift came a stop at the top and they stepped off and started back to the entrance. There they stepped out onto the platform and both shifted to their true form.

and deep below something stirred that had slept from the day the war started. It's slumber had been disturbed by the scent of two dragons.
