Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 6th, 2008, 8:20pm
"Feel better?" Reldai asked the youngsters as they emerged from the salty water. "mmmhmmm", they nodded. The rancor of the past day, the arguments and insinuations made by both Ash and Rikki had faded as they bathed in the ocean surf.
"We're ready, Reldai." one of the other men spoke. "I thank you, Chaz." She said softly beckoning the two. "Now, you said you flew over the mountains, how much time did it take before you arrived at them?"
Reldai looked to the expanse of mountain before them, knowing it would be a hard trek if they were to walk the way towards the other village.
Rikki, her gaze turning back to the water, sighed softly, chewing thoughfully on her lip.
~Ash?~ She spoke intently to her brother. The tone drew his eyes and he looked to where she'd fixated her gaze. The mouth of the river.
"Do you think?" Rikki grinned at Ash, remembering well his swim up the eastern river.
"Reldai!" they shouted at the woman, pulling her attention to them.
"Come on, we can go this way. It'd be easier...don't you think?" As she realized what they spoke of Reldai laughed. "Of course, children. And much easier for me than walking."
She looked to Chaz, "Willl our small craft make it?"
"If it does not Reldai, we will carry them on the shore until we do."
She nodded. Then looked to the small number of villagers around them.
"We go." she said softly, turning her gaze to the ocean once more. The small troop of seven, nearly half their remaining numbers trekked to the river. Those who swam, a small number, being only Reldai, Rikki and Ash were followed by the others on flat bottomed boats. Long poles were pushed into the water, forcing the craft upstream.
Easier for Reldai, but for the others, it would be a long day of work.
Far ahead, Ash and Rikki, followed by the slower Reldai, lingered deep within the river. Their smiles and exhilaration easily felt by the other woman, it was hard to remember their potential danger. Reldai knew, however, they must be brought together...those villages that had separated after the crash.
They had to, or all would be lost. Re: Walkabout

The mid morning had passed and they settled on the shore of the River. Having passed the mountain, it's valley of rivers easily navigated, they looked to the falls that faced them.
"Reldai, tell us more." Rikki said as she nibbled on her food.
Reldai, placing her hands on her lap hmmed slightly as she thought to herself. After a moment she spoke, a little thoughtfully, "It is said long ago we had come from a world of oceans. The people, having been devastated with wars and violence decided to send some of their people to other worlds. They wanted to save some of the people for they believed unless something was done, their lives would end."
She frowned, stirring a stick in the fire as she continued to speak. "It is believed, somehow, contact was lost and they never knew where the travelers landed. Those travelers would be our ancesters." Her voice dropped lower, almost to a whisper. "Sometimes, I wonder what happened to them, if they survived. If they remember us."
Rikki met Ash's gaze, their faces solemn. Would they ever know? Re: Walkabout

Khaera and Nraith rose into the air and flew again towards the ocean once more. she did notice that there were less there and knew Reldai were taking them back to the Village. she wouldn't stop them, but she wouldn't allow the village to kill or take the children back.
"They are going back?" came his question, "They will kill those children and the party that goes with them" she growled at that thought "Not if we are there" his large head gave a nod "I will travel with the party, they know my human form, though Rikki knows yours, she saw you and now realizes it was you" she smiled at that "That girl is smart" a chuckle came to her mind "Perhaps that can be an advantage" she just nods as Nraith followed their scent and she veered off towards the village.
Nraith landed near where they had stopped and he shifted to his human form out of sight of the party. A handsome man, but his age showed in his eyes. He moved towards the children and with a smile "Well isn't this a sight. May another lonely traveller join you?" he winks to Rikki and Ash as He steps in to join them a touch to Reldai's mind would show her who he was and that she did know him.
As Nraith and Aer'alyn plotted with the humans the Elders, minus Nraith and Aer'alyn's Grandsire, planned the attack "It's a small village, it should only take one or two to destroy it" Jezraith shared his thoughts with the others "I shall go and take one other" Gelthiron nodded his large head "What if they interfer?" Jezraith shot his head up "Neither are to be killed if that is what you are asking" he looked out to the sky and wondered what had gotten into her. But if it was true, all the stories, she would be the one. He knew this would show whether this seemingly nothing for a Dragon would prove to be the one. The one with the knowledge and fortitude to stand up to him. Deep down he hoped it was true, that she would be there to stop him.
Aer'alyn flew towards the village. She would stop the tragedy that was threatening to happen and she had this feeling something more was going to happen, though she couldn't pinpoint it. Perhaps it was what her Dame would call a female's intuition. But she couldn't shake it. she had already decided what she would do. she would land near her camp, it was behind the hill and it would be dark when she reached it and they wouldn't see her there, she would shift and make for village in the morning. She would be there before they arrived. Now she would have to trust Nraith to keep them safe on their way. For her, he would do whatever it took, she knew that, though she had to wonder.
she paused a moment in her journey and caught a deer with her talons. That would be supper, but she would have to cook it. the smell of cooking food or the sight of a fire in the darkness would surely bring attention.
As night fell she neared her camp and landed to the ground, there she shifts and makes for her camp a short distance away. As she arrives she makes a fire and then lays out her bed and what was left of the deer, she'd gotten a bit snackish on the way and eaten a little.. well most of it. leaving enough though for 3 meals in human form. she sat comfortably as it cooked as she pondered on what she'd read, what she remembers all the while keeping her senses alert, testing the air for any changes so that if someone were to sneak up on her, well - they really couldn't sneak too well. They sat in silence for a time, until Reldai rose. Her movements stiff and awkward for a moment. "We must go." Rikki, concern for the older woman rose and reached out to her.
"Reldai?"
"Do not worry Rikki, I am only old...but I am not passed. Come."
She smiled, gently touching the girls cheek before she slipped into the water. A soft sigh reached Rikkis ears and she knew how comforting the water was to the older woman.
They swam again, the night beginning to fall before they emerged from the water.
A fire quickly made was waiting those on the floatcraft when they arrived. Reldai, resting warm beside the fire slept in fitful starts and stops.
Rikki and Ash, sitting next to each other, watched the woman.
"She is tired, Ash." "Yes...." Worried, they watched the woman until long in the night, the silence broken only by the arrival of the the others on the floatcraft.
They were together, but at what cost, Rikki wondered. Re: Walkabout

Nraith joined as night fell, he smiled to Rikki, Ash and Reldai, and even as he watched the woman he knew something wasn't right, his thoughts touched her mind "Reldai, Tell the truth, what is wrong? I taste the worry and fear in Rikki and Ash" He was quiet and watched the direction the village was in. she would be there by now, but he got the feeling that something was deeper was wrong, something elsewhere was happening, he couldn't shake that feeling he should be someplace else. But he will stay with them, they are as important as his kind are, and for the survival of dragonkind, they needed them, even if most would not admit it.
Aer'alyn watched the stars, there was a slight breeze and it brought many a scent to her "Aer'alyn" the call came to her mind "Jezraith?" she spoke it as well as touching the link through their kind "You are safe. I feared for you" she blinks a little "No, I am well Jezraith. All is well" he touched her emotions, his own relief at her being well came to her and it made her think a moment as he closed the link between them. she watched the sky again and soon slept, even if only for a short time, but it was enough. Morning would come and she would make her way to the village at first light Re: Walkabout

They'd looked to each other as he'd arrived. Though surprise was foremost, it did not last. Ash, more willing than Rikki, moved to sit next to the...man.
Rikki continued to watch Reldai, then moved to sit next to the woman. Her hand, lightly brushing against the womans cheek, held a touch of worry. The showing of affection was rare in the village and but for Rikki and Ash, rarely done.....and more rarely shown.
"I am here, Reldai." the girl said as she lay to the woman's back, wrapping her arms about her. The elder hand rested upon Rikkis, a silent show of appreciation.
Reldai, her eyes opening for a moment, met the gaze of Nraith. ~I am only old, there is nothing to be done for it.~ Though she spoke the truth as she knew it, she'd never felt such weariness, and hoped that was all. That a long rest would help. She could not pass...not before the children were taught all she knew...not before the villages were again joined. Re: Walkabout

Nraith smiled to Ash and patted his knee, then watched Rikki and Reldai. he could only smile at Reldai's words ~Then you know nothing of our kind Reldai. If you will let me help you, I can~ he had read of old ways to prolong life, to help those growing old do so with grace. their death was usually sudden and it was simply because it was their time, atleast that's what he read. He had read the pages so many times over his long life that he could see the pages within his own mind if he chose.
he looked over to Rikki and touched her with comfort, he would do what he could and nothing more. It wouldn't be sudden, but he hoped it would help. While these humans were not the same as those that were here - that he knew of - they were human and he didn't think their physiology was that much different. She would never be immortal or live as long as he or his kind, but she would live longer. Re: Walkabout

Reldai responded with a half 'mmmmhh.." as she slipped off to sleep. Rikki, peered over her shoulder to look at the dragonman. She still was unsure what to think of them, though Ash had seemed to develop a rapport with the man.
Settling back down, she closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of Reldai before her. Did she remember sleeping thus with her mam, before Ash was born?
Her mind wandering back, she fell into a light doze. What had she been? Three? No more than that, she thought.
"yes...three", she murmered softly to herself as the light sleep took her back..... Re: Walkabout

Nraith sat and watched, he could understand Rikki's unease, he had deceived her in posing as human and not telling them the truth of who he was, but he needed them to go with him and he couldn't do it necessarily as a dragon. It seems though everything turned out better. They had found the others and joined with them, now they knew the existence of other villages. There were so many others 20 - 30 people in each, all atleast 5 days travel from the next, scattered far enough that many did not think there were others. The stories of the wanderers were just that, stories. Perhaps this would bring a greater purpose of life to the two leggers where they could see the possibilities that exist for them. This encounter with the village would be a most interesting one.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Jezraith stood outside his lair and looked in the direction of the village. He had touched Aer'alyn, she was alive and now he must go and destroy the village, or atleast try. He hoped she would pick up the hint that something was going to happen. Did they think he would not hear of the threat to her? That was not something he could just stand by and let idly go. She wasn't his mate, yet. He had hoped one day that maybe she would see he was a good choice. this no doubt would seal the fate in this department and would bring a clear resounding - never - from her mind.
He refused to linger on it any more. what will be will be. He turns into his lair and disappears for a night of sleep. He would not attack the village until evening just as they finish their evening meal. He would not sleep well, his thoughts continue to turn to Aer'alyn. Deep down he hoped he was right about her. "Rikki? Rikki??" The voice broke through the child's sleep and she stirred hugging close to her mother. "Yes, mam?" She half sat up as she felt the rolling movement of the womans stomach. "Rikki, go get Sahira."
"Mam? Is it time?" The child sat up, staring at her mother in the darkness. "Yes, Rikki." The girl darted up and ran from the home, her small feet hit the stones sharply in their haste.
"Sahira!! Sahira!!?" She called out, breathless as the woman emerged from her home. "You come child, and your sister does as well."
All had believed the new child would be a girl, after all, did not a mothers body show well the sex of the child before it was born?
Sahira walked towards the home, the night would be long. Birthings always were. A scream pierced the night before she reached it and she ran in haste to the home. Arms, tightly gripping, held the child back.
"No Rikki, you stay out." Came the command. "But my mam, my sister." She tugged, trying to get away but the hold was too tight.
Minutes later, Sahira returned, seeing the girl being held back. "Let her go, it is only a boy."
"A boy?" the murmer of shocked words spilled through the small group that had risen at the cry.
Rikki, running into the room, saw the child laying alone on a folded blanket. "Mam?" The woman, her face red from the slap she had recieved said dully. "It is only a boy, Rikki. Put him in the ashes where he belongs."
"No!" the child cried out, cradling the baby to her small body. "No, he is not ashes. " She looked down, kissing his dark hair. "He is Ash, my brother."
Rikki, taking charge of her brother, saved his life. Yet the loving touch she would not feel again for many years. Not until she lay curled against Reldai would she feel the comfort of a mothers touch.
Reldai, moaning softly as she felt the dreams of the girl next to her reached out in her sleep, tightening her hold on the child. Both slept, and the night passed. Re: Walkabout

Nraith slept little, but mostly kept watch on the children and Reldai as well as the others too through the night. he watched as Rikki dreamed, touching her mind to see them. He smiled as she can see why the two are so close. This one was special as Aer'alyn had spoken. He saw light peek slightly into the sky and he stood and moved to the river's edge and watched as the sun begin it's journey through the sky.
After a short time he started the fire again and then started to make the morning meal for everyone to eat, he stayed quiet and watchful.
- - - - - - - - - - - -
Aer'alyn woke an hour before the sun would begin it's journey. she packed up her things and then started to prepare breakfast before ensuring her daggers were sharp and ready - just in case. It was then she heard the sounds. Men came, she smiled as she set her daggers down and then began to put her food onto a plate. They were to her right and coming closer. As they drew close enough to hear her she spoke softly "It's not very nice to sneak up on a traveler." blue eyes turned to them, she smiled, then motioned them to the camp "Come and eat. There is more than enough" she then grew silent as they drew near "What are you doing here?" she had a mouthful and raised a brow as she swallowed, "I am travelling. I have come from the Village Montras, 14 days journey from yours. I didn't think I needed a reason to be someplace" she watched their features "What brings you out here? Shouldn't you be at home sleeping with your loved ones?" The older one watched her carefully, "You were in the village before?" she nods, "Yes I was. I left and now I have returned in my journey back home" she glanced to each one, finished what was on her plate and began to set it aside to clean it. It had been a good thing she had learned to cook as a two-legger.
her words satisfied them for now and they sat down to eat of the food that she offered "have you seen any children roaming? Or a dragon?" she raised a brow "I have only seen the children of your village and I see dragons flying over head all the time. Any particular one you are looking for?" he nods "she is a blue. Still young and stupid" she held back the amusement in her eyes and nods "I see. Well I have seen no blue dragon that was young and stupid" she packs her things and sets her daggers to her hips before she lifts the pack to her back "Well I don't know about you, but I'm heading to the village. You are welcome to stay, but please clean up after yourself" she put the fire out and then started down the hill towards the path that would take her to the village. the two men looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders and she didn't look back.but she could hear them coming up behind her.. ah, she had an escort and she wondered on how far away the others were and why Jezraith had chosen to contact her now of all days Re: Walkabout

Rikki rose as Reldai stirred. As she sat up, she saw Ash moving as well. Reldai, sitting, looked over to Nraith. Her sleep had been more restful than she remembered for many a long time.
She nodded to him, saying little more than 'good morning'. Her hand lightly stayed Rikki's movement.
"You spared your brother, at your expense."
Rikki, her eyes widening only nodded. "I could not let...."
"No, you could not." Reldai smiled slightly, her lips pressing a light kiss upon Rikki's forehead.
Rikki, swallowed down the lump that formed in her throat, though she could not hide the tears that formed in her eyes. Quickly she rose, running to the River. With a breath, she dove within and from their sight.
Ash, watching ran after her.. "Rikki?!!" He turned as she disappeared from his sight. "What happened, what is wrong with Rikki?" He stared from Reldai to Nraith.
"Ash..." Reldai motioned to him. "What do you know of your birth?" Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 8th, 2008, 10:51pm
Nraith watched Rikki rise, heard Reldai's words, but only smiled to the girl "Morning" then watched as she ran and dove into the depths, a small sigh. It amazed him how alike Rikki and Aer'alyn were, and that brought a small chuckle from his throat. then he went quiet again simply listening as Reldai spoke with Ash.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
she made her way towards the village, she was in no hurry today walking at an even pace with the men from there who were out as part of their century duty. she didn't speak, but kept her thoughts on things she knew, things she suspected, and others things that had her puzzled ~Jezraith~ she paused and wondered ~Is everything ok?~ Jezraith felt her touch and sighed to himself before reaching out through the link ~All is well my sweet~ she smiled, he still called her that even though she had no intentions of being his mate. it made her chuckle and that chuckle brought a look from her two new companions ~I was just curious Je'raith. It has been along time since You have reached out~ he nodded though she couldn't see it ~Yes it has~ He noticed the name she called him and that made him wonder. oh... this could be a mistake, but he had committed to it, now he must go through with it, even if it meant she would hate him. he said nothing else and she made no attempt to reach out again, she was still.. puzzled. Something must be up. Was this a warning of sorts? but of what? Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 9th, 2008, 09:48am
Ash shook his head. "They do not speak of it." He glanced to the water, "Sometimes, I felt as if Rikki did something she shouldn't. Sahira..." he frowned, shaking his head. "I am sorry Reldai, you must ask Rikki."
With that he closed his lips, refusing to speak of it. Though the morning meal was near, he headed to the river to wait for Rikki.
As the others began to eat a short time later, Reldai came near. She rested her hand on his shoulder, "Come Ash, you must eat."
He peered over his shoulder, "I'm sorry Reldai, but I...can't." He looked back to the water, "Not until Rikki returns."
"Can't or won't Ash?"
"Won't Reldai."
"Alright Ash, when you are ready. How far are we from your village?"
He looked back at her, appreciating her acceptance. "Only a short way, Reldai. Once we pass this valley, it is our hunting area. Others will probably be there." His eyes held the worry, and he turned back to watch the water.
Reldai, lightly rested her hand upon his hair, before walking back to the others. Her gaze turned to Ash, watching him as she ate.
It was not long, when the water rippled and Rikki appeared. She saw Ash waiting, and a smile crossed her face. "Ash..." He kipped his head, watching her, then smiled as well before heading into the water.
Reldai, watching them said as she rose and headed to the water. "It looks like we're leaving. Come on, we're almost there." Re: Walkabout

Nraith watched in silence. He really didn't have much to say when it came to humans, well these ones in particular. He knew more about those that had passed than he did about these that now inhabited the lands. He would learn, as would all of his kind.
A quiet glance to Reldai and a smile, then to Rikki as she appeared. Ash followed her and Reldai as well. He would also take the water.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Aer'alyn reached the village as light touched the tree tops, she took a breath and let it out slowly her gaze shifted around the village as she paused. Her two 'escorts' gave her a little bit a of a push to get her going. She chuckles softly, "I didn't realize I was your guest" the older one just gave a snort, she started to move but didn't go where he wanted her to "Lady, this way" he pointed towards Sahira's house, she chuckles, "Actually I'm going this way" she turned and started towards the center well, where she sat on the side and started to draw water from it. she took a drink and washed her face
~Nraith, you are near? I am in the village now~ his reply came ~Yes we are~ that was good. they would be here sometime around the midday meal she would think, depending on how long it took them. perhaps she could keep the hunting party in the village or have them come back early.
her two 'friends' stayed close by as she sat and drank some water and cleaned her face, glancing about as she waited for Sahira to emerge, perhaps no one would care she had come. She wouldn't go far, soon the market would be open and she would look around. her thoughts though once more turned to Jezraith.. what was he up to? Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 9th, 2008, 8:01pm
They'd left the river, joining the rest of the travelers as they neared the hunting area. As Rikki looked upward, eying the sun, she knew they would arrive before midmeal.
Would their mam be very angry at them? She had been, but would she still be? Sahira, she knew, was not forgiving. Had she not bore the lashings of the womans tongue on numerous occasions?
"Reldai, we are almost there." She smiled at the old woman, talking her arm and helping her over the rough patches. "I am fine, Rikki. I feel better than yesterday. Perhaps it is the change in the air. This higher altitude." Reldai smiled at the girl, squeezing her hand affectionately. Ash, having been trailing behind, came running up.
"Rikki...." His tone caught her ear.
"What is it Ash?" She half turned to him, then stopped.
"Oh...my."
Reldai turned as well. "Children...." Her hands tightened on theirs. Re: Walkabout

(ooc... that's ok, I was so tired last night ..time change did a number on me for yesterday...that I forgot what I was typing and just stopped....how bad is that?)
(bic)
As Reldai looked at the mountains that towered behind them, the morning sunlight had hit the mountain, illuminating it in a golden orange glow.
Being a shore dweller, Reldai had never seen the sight and her hands gripped tighter to the childrens hands. "Have you ever...?" she asked, Rikki only stared at the mountain. Was it their angle, was it the place of the sun? Ash, his hand trembling in Reldai's, spoke softly. "Fire dragon."
"What?" Reldai asked, though her eyes never left the mountain.
"We were told stories by Sahira, when we were very young, that when the mountain became fire ...dragons would destroy the world."
They shivered with the thoughts, and after a few moments, Reldai nudged them around. "Come, I must speak to your Sahira."
They turned, heading towards the village. Rikki, however, kept looking back and now and again, her gaze would turn to Nraith. Re: Walkabout

((~lol~ No worries. I kinda wondered))
Nraith turned as Ash came up and looked to the sky with a smile.. until he saw Ash's reaction and heard why. He thought back and wondered. He didn't say anything to them verbally about the stories, but he did realize that each morning they culled the humans there was a sunrise like this one. This wasn't going to be a day as they had planned. He would warn Aer'alyn, but for now he simply smiled "It'll be alright" He knew it would be. He had discovered Aer'alyn's heart on that village. She would not let any of their kind hurt them. To Reldai he sent softly ~Khaera is already at the village and all is well~ then he broke off contact as he returned the gaze and gave a reassuring smile, his thoughts reached out to Aer'alyn ~Aer'alyn, they are coming~
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Aer'alyn had seen the sunset, as did all those in the village. A few of them looked to her, but she looked as concerned as they did so most didn't bother her again as she replied to Nraith ~I know~ it was just a matter of when. Nraith asked quickly ~How?~ she didn't reply to that, but he would figure it out and If she knew Je'raith as well as she thought he did he would attack around the evening meal. That was his favorite time. She wasn't sure though if it was entirely his decision or not. she would find out soon enough.
she perused her way through the small market, buying some food for her 'journey' as well as some other items she thought she might 'need' if not now, then another day. though she wondered how long she could keep up this with her kind coming to destroy the village and all who are in it. Je'raith knew her human form, it was he who had helped her discover it so he would see her upon reaching the village. And as always they gave the villagers a chance to die at their own hand or to head to the plains. Always they chose to fight. Today they would not have a chance to accept or refuse, she would not let it get that far.
She could feel Nraith closer, they would be here soon, then it was only a matter of when her kind would be here. It was a small enough village that they would only send one or two. Re: Walkabout

Reldai squeezed their hands tightly, then ushered them before her. "Come, no worries about what we do not know, worry only about those things that we can change."
They continued to keep looking back, however, as they neared the village. It was when the broke through the final line of trees that Rikki and Ash stopped.
"There it is Reldai." Rikki's voice was serious, and unshaken.
Their emergence from the thicket was not unnoticed, and several looked up, pointing their direction.
Sahira, coming from her house, looked in the direction. "Get them and bring them here."

Aer'alyn watched as they emerged from the thicket, seeing Reldai, Rikki and Ash first, then Nraith following behind them with the others. she watched as Sahira came from her home and ordered them brought, she didn't move or flinch or react, she simply found a seat on the center fountain again. Rikki would recognize her and she sent to Rikki and Ash ~please do not speak of our human forms, we will reveal them in time~ it was a simple request, she figured Rikki would not, but she had to be sure. She was for now left alone, but she wondered how long that would last and how long before Je'raith came.
Nraith glanced to her but neither made it know they knew each other. They were simply travelers, separate from each other. Time would tell if that could be kept up, his gaze moved along to the others as they approached, he did not reach for his daggers as they were not there to fight and he didn't want anyone to get hurt. They were summarily brought to the courtyard, Sahira standing before them. Separated, Rikki and Ash stood alone, Reldai with the others from her village and Nraith stood back and to their left and right.
Sahira looked to Reldai as the obvious oldest woman. "You have returned these two, they have disobeyed our rules and fled punishment."
Sahira, looking to Rikki asked sharply. "All you have been given, you have dishonored. What have you to say in your defense?"
Ash, stepping to Rikki's side said in a rare moment of defiance. "She did nothing wrong, she only wanted to make sure I was safe."
"Boy, you will be silent!" Sahira said commandingly.
Her voice, however, was slight compared to that of Reldai as she came forward.
"What are you doing to these children? Are you a fool as well as blinded?" Reldai spoke with authority and the others in the village of Sahira gasped with astonishement.
Rikki looked towards her mothers home. "Mam?" A pale face was seen, but in a moment, the door closed hiding the face.
Though no one could see, the woman inside, leaned against the door, shaking with suppressed emotion and fear. Her soft whisper was unheard by those outside, "I'm sorry Rikki...I'm so sorry."
Sahira, just as astonished as the rest took a moment, then thundered back, "How dare you....a stranger, speak to me in such a way?"
Reldai, lifing her chin stared eye to eye with Sahira. "I am Reldai, I dare many things when it comes to righting wrongs."
A soft murmer swept through the crowd. Reldai? That was from the old language, a title even Sahira had refused when she became leader. They knew the word, but never had they met a priestess. Until now. Re: Walkabout

Nraith stood between Reldai and her party and Rikki and Ash. He waited, smiled a little as Reldai stepped forward and spoke with Authority. Even he recognized the authority she had and he was not one of them. He simply watched, with barely a glance to Aer'alyn
Aer'alyn remained where she was watching and listening, she noticed everything about Rikki, so when Rikki spoke so softly and looked towards what was her home she glanced in time to see a pale face disappear. What other could not hear she could and she inhaled softly with thoughts of warmth and care she touched the mind of Rikki and Ash's Mam ~Dearest lady, you have an opportunity here to right a wrong done many years ago. To stand up for your Daughter and Son, for both are Valuable and precious to all humans. Will you do what is right? or will you allow the injustice to continue?~ There would be no indication of who it came from as her gaze was on the scene in the courtyard before her, she left out and to dragonkind too, she didn't want to give their position away. She made sure that the woman knew she would have backing, the thoughts too were shared with Nraith as they were sent to the woman, as was the feeling, which he added to. There was strength behind both - if she chose to do what was right or allow this to continue.
Would she blame the woman if she chose not to? Probably not, she understood the importance of authority and maintaining a loyalty, but there came a time when it had to be challenged. Thankfully Reldai was here, their reaction to her 'name' made her smile as well. perhaps something good could come of this and her and Nraith could come out of hiding and show who they were -but that wouldn't be decided in haste Re: Walkabout

The woman, Cariba, held her hands to her ears as the words swept through her. She shook her head moaning softly, 'noooo.' as she slumped against the door.
Reldai, turning to the villagers, spoke quietly, yet with a firmness of tone that riveted all attention.
"You have done well to prosper and survive, but you have lost your way. You have forgotten the people you are, the people you could be. You have been blinded by mistruths and errors of judgement."
She turned to look at Sahira. "I blame you, Sahira. You, who should have been leading these people have been hurting them. Hurting children..why?"
She looked to Rikki and Ash. "You have other children, yet you treat them as castoffs and ruins. How dare you!?" she looked back at Sahira, "How dare you misuse your gifts?"
A soft creak of the door, and a shadowed pale face looked to the crowd, searchingly.
"These children have blinded you, Reldai", Sahira spoke her wide gesture taking in Rikki and Ash.
"No," Reldai walked to Sahira, "These children have opened my eyes to the truth. We are many people, yet we are one. We have been separated for too long and our people suffer for what we have not done."
She looked to the villagers, glancing back at Rikki and noting the girls interest in an ajared door. Within a few steps she was at the door, pushing it open. Cariba, stepped back, then felt the tug of a hand on her wrist.
"Come lady." Reldai said softly, pulling the woman into the daylight.
Bruises that had been unnoticed in the dim light were readily visible. Her panicked gaze took in Rikki and Ash before she looked aside and down. Shame and sorrow laced on her face.
Reldai looked at Sahira, "How do you justify this?" Her voice steely and unflinching in it's tone. Re: Walkabout

Aer'alyn watched Reldai, listened to her words, and was pleased, though she showed it not. It was when the door creaked open that she looked over a moment, then watched as Reldai pulled the woman out, her blue eyes went wide and shifted to unhuman, but she only let the growl manifest in Nraith's mind, he returned an agreement with her growl of disapproval, but neither made eye contact, they simply watched. They would only interfer if someone threatened the party that Nraith came with - that party included Rikki and Ash.
her gaze shifts to look around, though her senses spreading out, licking her lips to taste the fear and worry and shame and anger, but then she tasted something else as a breeze blew from the south past her. It was then Nraith and her locked eyes, but neither spoke, they didnt have to. It would be a lot sooner than either thought before Je'raith would come, It wouldn't be long, they had perhaps an hour - if they were lucky. Re: Walkabout

Reldai had released Cariba, asking again, "How do you justify this?"
Cariba, her gaze averted stood silently still. Rikki, moving to her gently reached out to touch her arm. "Mam?" The woman, flinching back refused to look up.
Reldai continued to speak, "You have wasted your gifts, your talents that were to help the people, have been used instead to abuse and harm them."
Sahira, her words swept away as she was berated in front of her villagers. Berated as she had never been. Her silence, misunderstood by the people was taken advantage of by Reldai.
"What have you done to your people that they live like trapped animals, with no freedom and no joy?" She gestured to Rikki and Ash. "You would tear children from their mother, treat them as little more than beasts, what right have you to decide who lives and dies?" She looked back to the villagers, "Is it not enough to have life struggles....must you attack each other, must you hurt each other?"
"I tell you Sahira, it is wrong....it is very wrong. You are wrong."
Rikki had again rested her hand on her mothers arm, whispering softly, "mam, please." a child's cry. Cariba, her eyes quickly darting to Sahira tentatively rested her hand on Rikki's. Ash, stepping closer, gingerly reached out to touch her cheek. "mam?" She looked up at Ash, her face and neck bruised and reddened. Her eyes, like Ash's own, looked into his.
"Rikki called you Ash..", she whispered brokenly, as the three cautiously touched and learned each other.

Aer'alyn continued to keep her senses on the breeze that flowed through her thick red hair, she took a breath and let it out slowly before standing to her feet with a glance to Nraith ~don't open yourself up to attack. They know me in my True form already~ He didn't look to her but watched Reldai berate Sahira, she watched as well and listened, touching the mind of Cariba once more ~allow yourself to feel and be who you are meant to be, do not let yourself be trapped any longer. Your children are beautiful children and prescious~ Nraith was looking at Cariba when Aer'alyn sent her those thoughts, she looked to Reldai and sent to her ~my kind are coming, I believe it is for the threat which they uttered towards myself~ by those words Reldai could summerize that the villagers knew not she was there nor of her human form, which was for now to her liking, she continued to look around without bringing alarm or attention to herself, she knew that her current form would not be hidden long, she could feel Je'raith ever closer Re: Walkabout

Reldai, glancing sharply at the red-headed woman gave a slight nod before she looked to Sahira.
"Where do you go for protection? Where do you hide when the dragons fly?" Sahira refused to answer and Reldai grabbed her arms, shaking her. "You fool! You will leave these people to be attacked because of your pride?!"
The disgust and outrage was evident on her face and she turned to look at the villagers. "If you were in danger, where would you go?" The people gave scattered looks here and there, before Sahira answered. "Some have places built beneath their homes, others go to the river caves." Others, she did not say, were left to mercy.
Reldai looked at Rikki and Ash. "Where do you go to hide?" Rikki glanced to Khaeralyn. "The hills...." she gave a half gesture towards where they'd first met the blue dragon. "over....that direction."
Ash, having crept closer to Cariba, had placed his arm about her waist. His thoughts for her, as he whispered softly. "You are not well...mam." Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 11th, 2008, 12:31am
she stepped forward, but Nraith knew what she was going to do and spoke up first
"Do not run to the hills. I want you to see what happens, I want you to see what a dragon threatened with death will do for those that threaten her"
it was then that Je'raith flew over once, Aer'alyn stepped out of the crowd and looked up ~stay away Je'raith, do not do this~ he turned back and hovered 20 feet above her ~ I Must Aer'alyn. You know they threaten one of us they threaten us all~ she growls softly, though she was sound more Draconic than ever ~They threaten in fear and ignorance, a fear and ignorance we have placed on them. But it is our turn to bring them and ourselves out of that fear and ignorance! Do not do this Je'raith!~ she growled agian, no doubt they would have heard the difference in her voice, it was deeper, she was standing out in harms way.
Nraith looked to Reldai, Rikki and Ash, sending them a quick though ~do not worry, trust. We will not allow harm to come to you~ he could see the shock in their faces as this woman stood up to a dragon, a second dragon circled far above, no doubt held at bay by Je'raith's command.
Aer'alyn could feel the fear amongst the humans and fed off of it ~Do you not remember the vow? Did they not tell you the stories as they told me?~ he growled at her words to him, words the others could not hear, but he spoke now verbally "Do not speak to me of the Vow fledgling! That is a story without proof" he knew as soon as he said them that he shouldn't have "I have the proof Je'raith! I have seen their words, their mark to say it was them!" he shook his head and turned to the humans before looking back to her "Get out of my Aer'alyn or I will bring you down with them" he started to rise as she growls, dropping her bag and weapons, her shoulders rolling back "you can try" she leaps into the air as she does she shifts, wings snapping out as talons snap to take hold of the large red, he takes hold of her and lifts her high into the air, the other dragon had gone Nraith had made sure of that with a quick word, once the elder touched his mind he left with haste.
Aer'alyn and Je'raith rose into the air, growling and hissing, clawing at each other and going higher, Nraith spoke as they fought,
"this was the dragon you said was the enemy. I wonder who was the real enemy here. She came to you in peace, she saved a child of yours and returned him unharmed and you called her the enemy, yet.. by your threat to her her kind seeks to destroy you and she still chooses to save your lives, the same that sought to destroy her."
Aer'alyn and Je'raith went higher and higher until they were no longer seen as cloud passed between them and those on the ground and they did not return, it was difficult to say who won, but no dragon - that they knew of - remained.
Nraith shook his head in disgust and looked to Reldai, Rikki and Ash with a soft smile, he knew they did not feel the same way, nor did those that they came with. Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 11th, 2008, 10:14am
The first shock gave way to panicked fleeing as the woman became a dragon before their very eyes. Those of Reldai's village had come to stand in a protective circle around her, watching upwards the fight that began.
As Nraith began to speak, the panic calmed and the others stood in scattered places, no one near Sahira. She stared upward until the dragons disappeared, looking to her villagers, then to those that surrounded Reldai.
The difference was apparent.
She whispered softly to herself, in the murmererings of the crowd the words were lost. "what have I done?"
"Mam?" Ash's voice spoke softly, drawing Reldai's attention. She turned, seeing Ash and Rikki gently cradle the unconscious woman to the ground. Was it the shock of seeing a woman change into a dragon? Was it the shock of seeing dragons fighting? Was it the shock of her wounds? Or the lack of food since Rikki and Ash had disappeared?
Her skin, paper thin and dry, alarmed Reldai. "You, bring some broth." She commanded to a woman nearby. The woman scurried off. The crowd, some still looking upward, some watching Nraith, and others beginning to go near Sahira as if uncertain.
The broth brought, Rikki nodded to Ash as he took the cup, holding it to the woman's lips. "Mam....drink." A soft sigh broke from the woman, as her eyelids fluttered open. She drank slowly, her eyes never leaving Ash's face. Rikki, watching, tensed slightly until she felt the comforting touch of Reldai on her shoulder.
"No Rikki." Rikki, glancing up gave a nod, before helping to hold her mother up. Reldai looked at Nraith, then sent a questioning look upward. Was Khaeralyn alive? Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 11th, 2008, 11:17pm
Nraith noticed the change in the crowd and looked around, then to Sahira. The words lost on in the murmurings of the crowd were not lost to him and he approached her, his hand went to her shoulder "You have done nothing.." He paused for a purpose, his words were for her and her alone, though others would hear them, they were for her ..".. That you cannot change" with a finger he lifted her chin so that his eyes could meet hers, Once he was gazing into her eyes he spoke again "You only have to make the decision and follow it with action" within the depths of his grey eyes she would see the depths of wisdom and age that should only be seen in one centuries old.
As Reldai ordered broth he released Sahira and stepped back to allow her to assist as well in whatever way she would be permitted. Then met Reldai's gaze, he gave a nod, but he couldn't say in what condition she was in.

Je'raith and Aer'alyn landed with a thud in the mountains, a remote part that few have ever paid much attention to. a valley hidden in behind a range of mountains that appear at a glance to be one very large mountain. Je'rath landed on top of Aer'alyn and she went out cold, unconscious, though her breathing was shallow he knew she was alive and would live. He let out a growl and tried to reach out to her ~Aer'alyn~ He said her name through the link a number of times and there was no response. His own mind was beginning to fog and soon he too slipped into unconsciousness, laying beside Aer'alyn who remained still. Re: Walkabout

Sahira moved towards Reldai. Rikki, glancing up saw the woman and rose, glaring at the woman. "Stay away." she said sharply, anger flashing in her eyes.
Sahira paused, then answered, "I'm here to help."
"No, you're not. You don't know how to help. You stay away. I mean it."
Reldai, attempting to sooth the situation spoke up. "Rikki...."
"No Reldai, I have given...I have kept silent but this I will not keep silent," she said to Reldai before speaking to Sahira. "You stay away from her....stay away from me and Ash." Having said her piece, she turned to kneel beside her mother and Ash.
Reldai, turning to look at Sahira, faced the woman squarely. Sahira, not as old as Reldai, looked into the older woman's eyes. Reldai, offering both her hands, spoke first. "We must bring the people together. To protect them all, we must do it." Sahira, looking to her village closed her eyes, then nodded slowly.
Reldai turned to look at Rikki and Ash, tending their mother. She knelt down beside Rikki. "Rikki, we need Sahira to help bring the people together. Rikki hesitated before whispering through clenched teeth.
"If she's here, I won't be Reldai." She looked up at the woman.
"We need her Rikki." Reldai said softly.
Rikki turned away, looking to Ash, and seeing her mothers gaze. One that had not wavered from Ash. "Ash...", he glanced up at her, then back to their mother.
"Rikki?" Reldai spoke gently, touching her shoulder.
She flinched away, looking up at the woman and Sahira who stood just behind Reldai.
"You need her? They need her? I don't need her."
With that she turned on her heel and walked away, heading out of the village. Ash, noting her movement glanced up.. ~Rikki??~~
She hesitated, then turned looking at him. "Take care of mam, Ash."
A final glare at Sahira and she turned to walk away. Re: Walkabout

Nraith watched, he completely understood how she felt, many times he tried to walk away from his own kind, but he could not. They did need him, and it took him many centuries to learn - he needed them. He turned gave Reldai a soft look and followed after Rikki. Once he caught up he didn't say anything he just walked with her, His thoughts still reaching out to Aer'alyn, but he could not find her. He tried Je'raith, but he too was untouchable, which meant both were unconscious. He would not alert the council, likely Jezraith's failure to destroy the village and Aer'alyn's attempt to stop him would put them both at risk, so for now he simply stayed with Rikki Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 12th, 2008, 12:28am
She was still angry, the tension in her body evident. "I....", she began to speak then pressed her lips together as Ash spoke to her.
~~Rikki, please don't go.~~
~~I'm not going to be there with her Ash...you know what she's like. I'm not doing it~~
~~Please Rikki,~~ he repeated.
She shook her head, continuing to walk as the anger continued to build. But was it at Sahira, or Reldai, Ash or their mother....or was it herself she was most angry with? Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 12th, 2008, 12:39am
Nraith continued to walk with Rikki, still not saying a word, he just walked. he would wait a little while, but he knew what he would say. It would wait, a soft touch to Ash's mind ~I will bring her back. Care for you mother until then~ that was all he would say for now. he wasn't about to leave her. Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 12th, 2008, 7:50pm
She kept silent as they walked. She suspected he was there to convince her to return, and knowing that angered her all the more. It was not until the river came into view that she spoke.
"You needn't come."
Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 12th, 2008, 8:21pm
Nraith remained quiet as they walked. He could taste her anger and how it grows, inwardly he knew it was his presence. He turned to look at her, nodding
"You are right Rikki I don't need to come, but I will. I made a promise to Khaera to keep you safe, and I shall keep that promise"
he looked to the waters for a moment and then back to her. "You aren't going to like what I'm going to say, but it needs to be said. You said you don't need Sahira. And that is fine. After what she has done I can understand your anger and hate. But what about your Mother and brother. You might think you don't need anyone, but they need you. They need your strength and determination and unbridled stubbornness. I think it's awfully selfish of you to walk away, but if that is your decision, I will not hinder you and I will not speak any further of it"
at that he dives into the water and comes up a few feet from the shore, turning to look to her, waiting for her to enter the water Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 12th, 2008, 9:57pm
She considered what he said, then stepped into the water following him. Her mam had scarcely looked at her, keeping near all her attention on Ash.
"Fine." she said shortly, and slipped under the water. ....'I am not selfish,' she told herself as she swam to the bottom of the river. The swim doing two things.....soothing some of her anger, and hiding her tears. Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 12th, 2008, 10:14pm
Was her in her mind at that moment? no, but he could see her expression and taste the anger, he likely didn't have to say anything, but she could keep telling herself that and she knew the truth deep inside and his words would tug at her heart.
As she dove down he did as well, he didn't attempt to convince her of anything, nope, he would drop it as he said, but he knew humans - though some were selfish, most didn't like it being pointed out or having to admit to it and so his words would ring in her mind. Did she think this was easy on her mother?
he let it go, looking around as he swam under water, his throughts turned to Aer'alyn, frowning softly. This worried him. He must let her Sire and Dame know Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 12th, 2008, 10:30pm
She lingered for only a short time before heading downstream, the swim revitalizing her soul. As she neared the first of the falls that swept over the mountains, she emerged from the water.
Her question, the first since his accusations, was direct and short. "Where's Khaeralyn?" She gave a look around at the mountains and now surrounded them. Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 12th, 2008, 10:40pm
He followed her and soon he too rose out of the water and looked around. His gaze seemed to follow a line and he frowned slightly.
her question brought his gaze back to her and he shrugs, "I don't know Rikki, but I wish I did. I can't find Jezraith either" he sighs lightly and gives his head a shake. "I can't search for her like this." glancing to Rikki, "Do you want to go for a ride?" wiggling his brow and smiles a little, perhaps a dragon hunt will ease her thoughts and maybe she will want to return, either way, he wouldn't leave her. Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 12th, 2008, 10:53pm
She cast him a guarded look, then nodded but added. "Will you take me to the great waters after?"
She would help look for Khaeralyn, but she needed to get to the sea. Suddenly, that seemed very important. Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 12th, 2008, 11:06pm
Nraith smiles and nods softly "Deal" then he moved off to a safe distance and shifted from human to the silver dragon he truly is. He inhaled and let it out in a long breath, a deep voice bellowed from his throat "Yeessssss, this is better, much better" giving Rikki a wink and then lowering as much as he can, offering her his tail as a lift to get up on his back "No offense little one, but this is a much better form for me" he chuckles lightly.
then with his passenger on his back he lifts easily into the air with a broad long stroke down of large wings, rising higher and higher, he headed towards the south first. Re: Walkabout
Post by Rikki on Mar 12th, 2008, 11:13pm
She took no offense, having understood the feeling quite well. It was only when she was swimming that she felt complete. She perched herself upon him, inhaled a deep breath, then nodded.
"Alright, I'm ready."
With that, he'd taken off, lifting high above the ground. She scanned down, her gaze unerringly taking in the sight of the village in the distance.
She frowned to herself, then turned her gaze away. She was helping to look for Khaeralyn, not anything else. Not anything else. Re: Walkabout
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 26th, 2008, 10:39pm
Nraith continued to fly south, his eyes searching for both Je'raith and Aer'alyn, he would fly for as long as it took
~Nraith~ that was her Sire, ~Yes~ the thoughts continue to flow through the link ~Where is she? I can feel her, but she's not conscious~ Nraith let out a slow growl, he didn't want to give them reason to go after the council ~I don't know, I'm searching for her now~ a low growl was heard through the link ~We will search as well~ then there was nothing. He hoped to find them first, if they found Je'raith with her they would kill him.
Nraith swirved towards the eas and continued to scan the ground and take in the scents that fell upon the air. He caught the scent of Je'raith and began to follow them
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
He was woken by someone, another of his kind and he moved into the chamber where the fresh scents came from, looking around he moved inside. he had taken human form for the first time in many centuries. His dark eyes scanned the books as he inhaled the scents and followed them. His eyes narrowed upon a book, his hand moved over it and a low growl flowed over his tongue. He didn't touch the book but turned and moved quickly out of the room.
turning right he moved down the darkness of the hall and into his chamber. The female dragon's scent was strong and remained in his memory
He would track her
and get some answers
there was only one dragon who knew of that book
and where to find it
He shifted again and moved to the opening.
Darkness was coming, that was perfect.
He rose into the air
he was grumpy, He'd been woken up after long years of hybernation
Someone was going to pay for that
And with that thought, he lifted easily into the air, following the scent of the female dragon Re: Walkabout

As he moved through the currents of air, she began to look in the opposite directions as he. A soft mantra was softly repeating in her mind.
'blue skies, blue waters, blue dragon....', as she searched for blue that belonged not on the ground but in the sky. Her hands had kept a light but firm grip on his body, even as her feet found rest against his body.

Post by Rikki on Mar 8th, 2008, 2:12pm
Post by Khaer'alyn on Mar 8th, 2008, 3:16pm

It amazed him how alike Rikki and Aer'alyn were, and that brought a small chuckle from his throat. then he went quiet again simply listening as Reldai spoke with Ash.

she made her way towards the village, she was in no hurry today walking at an even pace with the men from there who were out as part of their century duty. she didn't speak, but kept her thoughts on things she knew, things she suspected, and others things that had her puzzled ~Jezraith~ she paused and wondered ~Is everything ok?~ Jezraith felt her touch and sighed to himself before reaching out through the link ~All is well my sweet~ she smiled, he still called her that even though she had no intentions of being his mate. it made her chuckle and that chuckle brought a look from her two new companions ~I was just curious Je'raith.

"You are not well...mam." Re: Walkabout

she stepped forward, but Nraith knew what she was going to do and spoke up first
"Do not run to the hills.

(to be continued)
