New Beginnings
Post by Khaer'alyn on Jul 20th, 2008, 6:50pm
words could not describe the feeling of remorse he felt of the attempt at the village, and he knew he would be met with resistance if he went there in dragon form, but could he expose himself to harm in human form.
he flew nearer the village and by all accounts he could sense they were getting ready to leave. He knew where, he knew of Reldai's village by the Ocean. they had not bothered anyone to the point where they did not need to be watched or culled like the others had.
He lowered himself to the ground outside the village and he shifted, he had to prove his sorrow by exposing himself in this form. If they killed him or tied him up for his crime - or rather his attempt at the crime, then so be it.
Steps took him towards the village, stepping past one of the outer buildings he made his way towards the center, stopping to ask someone where he could find Reldai. They knew who he was, they had seen the black land in the direction he came from, and thus far they did nothing to him. This was odd, though they kept a distance, they had seen Aer'alyn shift and probably figured nothing would hold him.
He saw Reldai and slowly approached her, nodding in quiet greeting as she spoke with others. When she ceased he spoke softly, the remorse he felt could be heard in his voice
"Reldai, I am Jezraith. You saw me as the Black a few days ago. I beg forgiveness for what was attempted that day and I offer to You and the villagers myself as a guard against attack"
He knew he had to do come, if others had come Aer'alyn would have surely died, as would have Nraith along with the village. He came with only one - Aer'alyn's younger male sibling - as is called in human terms, hence the reason for his departure, Aer'alyn had many many more years on him and would have hurt him if he had chosen to fight against his own blood, further to that had Nraith stepped in both of them - he and the other - would have been fatally injured.
for now he would wait, if he was to be punished it would be now. He hoped they would take his offer. He had felt the presence of a red rogue he had only the privilege of seeing fight - he hoped that he would not have to fight him.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Nraith, nodded softly to Rikki, he could feel the anger and hate for Jezraith in her heart, but he knew Jez did what he did because it had to be done - he found out it was ordered by others in the council of Elders, Jez went with oddly enough Aer'alyn's younger clutchling knowing he would leave when she told him too and knowing he could not beat Aer'alyn - ti had been a draw, had the council sent those they wanted to, both he and Aer'alyn would have died with those they befriended.
"Alright, Reldai's home it is!"
he moved away and he shifted with ease into his dragon form, getting lower so that Rikki could climb on, then once she was atop his back he took flight, first though he would fly south, farther south than she had ever seen
~I'm taking the scenic route, it will only add a couple hours to the flight though~
the flight would have still taken most to get to the ocean and Reldai's camp. he would show her things on the way she had never dreamed of before

Reldai had watched as he walked across the village grounds. His words were a bit unexpected, yet it is what he did not say that drew her alarm. "There are others, then? Others that would attack. You were the first wave?"
Others around them gradually stopped what they were doing. She glanced around, waving them to their work. "Every delay you make, is a greater delay for everyone. We must hasten."
This said to the others, she directed her attention to the dragonman before her.
*******
Rikki sighed softly as he spoke. For some reason, she was afraid he would decline to take her back. As they flew, she relaxed more fully. The peace of the flight brought an increasing peace within her. This was not a full peace, and if she let her thoughts linger too long on what had happened, she would find the anger flaring again.
She sighed again, leaning to rest her cheek against his neck ridge. She said nothing, only watched the ground below.

Jezraith watched Reldai carefully, but he shook his head at her question
"No, but there are rogues out there that will attack just because you are in their path. Like the one Aer'alyn and Nraith fought that brought them to your shores."
he wouldn't tell them of the red he'd felt in the area, though the area in his mind is far bigger than most humans would think of, he still didn't want to alarm her or the others. Nraith would likely be seen soon anyway. He knew they were going to the village as well.
"I will explain my earlier actions. I do apologize. There had a been an order to kill Aer'alyn upon sight. We take that seriously. Had I not come with her brother, Others would have and both Aer'alyn and Nraith would have perished trying to save you. I knew Aer'alyn would stop me, we are of equal strength at the moment" He chuckles lightly "The council will not send others. That does not mean however you or any human is free from the possibility. There are rogues who don't care who they kill and others who think all humans should be exterminated. Those ones are few, but they are out there and they are scattered"
he stopped speaking now, he guessed there might be questions, but even he knew the Old City was the only place to really find the answers. Nraith, Kez, and Aer'alyn, as well as the new presence upon the link, were the best to answer them. He did not spend much time there, now though he wished he had.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Words were not needed, whether in voice or thought, he could feel Rikki relax and smiled inwardly. The scenery below was beautiful, lush green fields and lakes and rivers, even more bountiful and beautiful than farther north where Rikki's village is. Marsh lands were seen as well.
They were high enough that below could be seen other dragons flying, not many only 2 or 3, one was very small, likely it's first flight alone.
He shifts slightly and follows the river
~This river empties out into the great sea. 5 other rivers will empty into this one before it reaches the great sea. Some of the waters are truly magnificent~
it shouldn't be long before they come to the 2nd of the 5 other lesser rivers, the first was farther back, but each river that emptied out were as impressive as the great river.
At the edge of one he could see humans fishing and so Rikki could see there were more humans he circles down and goes lower, the humans at the river were 2 men and 3 boys. They didn't see the Dragon and the girl on his back, but they could easily be seen, he turned and continued along toward the great sea

Reldai gave a soft hmmph of sound, then nodded. "Very well, I accept your offer as escort. We will be leaving shortly. I presume you will take your other form?" She asked curiously. As she spoke, Chava arrived with Ash. "Reldai, Ash wishes to walk with you, I will be tending to his mother."
Reldai nodded again, scanning through the crowd to the woman who had borne so much pain, but to what end? "Come Ash", she smiled at the boy, taking his hand gently and enfolded him into a light hug. His arms tight about her, he whispered. "I'm worried about Rikki," He knew she was too silent, and silence for Rikki was never a good thing.
"She will be fine, she is safe." Reldai assured him, glancing to Jezraith briefly as if believing he would know more about Rikki's state than she would at this point.
*********
She stiffened slightly as she spied the people. "Who are they, Nraith?" She knew from the colorful clothing they wore that they were not from her village. Nor were they from Reldai's. How many other villages were there? How many kept themselves isolated? Was it through choice, or not knowing?
She leaned further over, craning her neck to keep watching them. Careful however to maintain her grip and not slide sideways.
"I want to see them." she said softly, though she felt it important she get to the sea, she felt this was near equally as important.

Jezraith smiled to Reldai, though he knew she accepted reluctantly.
"I can, I can also keep this form and only shift when necessary or to look ahead as we start to climb or to hunt for food"
He was ready, like most dragons he traveled light in any form. His gaze turned to Ash as he spoke and as Reldai spoke to him
"Rikki is with Nraith, they are on their way to the village as well. She is well, but she is very angry with me and I suspect that is why she has been silent. Give her time Ash, she will come around and I assure you Nraith would die rather than letting anything happen to her."
he didn't blame her at all for her anger towards him - it was well deserved, even if his attempt at an attack was to keep a more deadly one from coming. In fact he fully expected her to eventually lash out at him, which he would take without complaint or defense.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Nraith smiled inwardly as he circled around to go back to where the human males were fishing, there was a tilt of his head
~they are also from the original humans that crashed here~
at Rikki's request to see them he thought for a moment, he glanced to the men below and noted they carried nothing that would harm either of them, his eyes dart towards their village which was not so difficult to see through the trees, the homes were built on little islands scattered throughout that area of the channel, the only place he could land was on the other side of the river
~Very well, but we must be careful Rikki~
he shifted to move over to other side of the great river, and began his descent. From his breath came smoke as they came through the clouds and to the humans it would appear as though a cloud were coming down to touch they trees. He landed as lightly as he could, but the ground still shook. He waited for Rikki to slide off of him, then he shifted to his human form, nodding to Rikki
"Lets go"
the smoke dispersed and sunlight returned. He didn't know how many more villages there were, but he knew a migration was beginning. Some of the most land locked villages had begun to seek out the ocean, though he didn't know why until now. He would share this with Reldai soon enough.
Walking carefully along the path towards the Great River

It was clear by the unguarded look in his eyes that Ash cared deeply for Rikki and he felt his worry was well founded. They had never seemed more apart than they did now, he thought. But, he nodded with a quietly spoken. "I will try to not worry."
As they spoke, Reldai watched the preparations, then took Ash by the hand again. "Come Ash...Jezraith. We start." She gave the dragonman a level glance, one of direct appraisal that she'd regarded him with a few moments previously. As if satisfied now with what she saw she nodded, again speaking his name. "Jezraith, you will walk with us?" She glanced back as Sahira arrived to walk with them in the lead group. Only the items necessary for travel and to sustain them once they reached the ocean would be carried.
**********
Rikki landed lightly, though a heavier landing of her slight form would have been nothing as the earth trembled a moment. She gave a smiling glance up to Nraith before he shifted in front of her. Startled, appreciative gaze however she gave him. She was privately amazed that he could do that. A trick she wished she could do...something special.
"Let's go," he'd said, and she headed to the river, wading into the water as she made for the small group. It was one of the boys that caught sight of her.
"Father!", he said. The youth being no more than 8, pointed to Rikki and Nraith. The men called the boys to them, though they realized a young woman could hardly be a threat.
"Jhna, come back here." called the boys father, and the child returned to the quartet that formed. Rikki, walked to them, glanced at their fishing gear and smiled. "I like to fish too."
"Who are you child, and from where do you and your father come?" The oldest of the men, gray haired and wiry, spoke.
She looked at Nraith, almost smiling as she said, "he is not my father. I'm Rikki. I am from a village across the great mountains."
"Sahira," spoke one of the younger men. He must have been about 3 years Rikki's senior. She looked at him. "Kwital?" She frowned as he seemed familiar. "I am Ktal, now Rikki....yes, I come from Sahira's village. I could not wait to leave there. It is good to see you have left it too."
She remained nearly frozen in shock, remembering well when Kwital, a young boy just out of puberty, left the village during the dark of night. They had been somewhat playmates until Ash's birth. Then, it was impossible to be that. She'd thought never to see him again.
"Ktal" She grinned broadly, embracing him tightly. He spun her gently around with a soft admonishment. "Rikki, you've grown up. And your baby brother? Ash?"
"Ash...", she closed her eyes, seeking out her brother.
~Ash?~
~Rikki?~~
~Ash, I have found an old friend.....~~
Ash smiled at the thoughttouch and smiled to himself. "Good, Rikki."
Rikki, still in the light embrace of Ktal, rested her hands on his shoulders looking up at him. "When did you get tall?" She asked him, for the last she'd seen of him, she was taller by two inches. She'd forgotten for a moment that Nraith was there.

Nraith waded into the water with Rikki, his senses on high to keep watch for anything that might attack her or anyone for that matter. As they reached the small group and listened he smiled as Ktal called him her father, it was a flattering thought, he'd be proud to have a child such as her, she couldn't be any more mischievous than his own were, that thought brought a chuckle. He was glad that these were some that knew Rikki, that means they would be relatively friendly, though he wasn't sure how they would react to dragons. He didn't know if they had had any contact with them.
"Changes come to the village you once knew" nodding with a friendly smile casting a glance to Rikki again.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Je'raith smiled to Ash, nodding softly, he would keep him informed if anything changed, though likely Rikki would contact him soon, once she calmed down that is.
He watched as Reldai took Ash's hand and then called for them to come, at her request he smiled
"It would be an honor to walk with you"
he moved in beside Ash, smiling.. Aer'alyn was right about the humans. His kind and those of the old ways, the ways after the death of the humans during the war - they were wrong too. He contacted Nraith
~she was right Nraith, I didn't see it before, but I do now. I feel it now~
Nraith smiled at the thoughts that reached him through the link, but he gave no reply. He only hoped that others would think so.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Kez moved through the tunnells. His grandfather had helped create these and the knowledge of them had been passed to him alone of the line - or so he thought. Moving through the city he found an entrance to the tunnels and started to explore. Once he found where they got bigger he knew he was getting closer, but he did not shift. He only smiled in thought. If it was who he thought it was that had the female, things were starting to change faster than anyone had anticipated. This could be good - but it could be bad as well.
Only time would tell.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Aer'alyn moved about the lair, her tail thumping as he managed to keep her inside, he wouldn't control her movements.. yeah right. She couldn't fly except with Him, and he was gone hunting and left her
she let out a roar that caused the mountain to shake. her tail struck the wall as she yelled at him
~Let me fly!~
a chuckle followed through the bond, ~soon my sweet Aer'alyn~
she let out another roar
~NO! NOW!~
he lands at the entrance to the lair and moved in, words of ancient draconic spoken as he does, opening the entrance for him to enter and he passed in. Zyreil glanced to the blue and chuckled out loud
~Aer'alyn You will fly higher than any have ever flown. You will be in heat soon and I will not have another Male following you around~
she growls at him, her back was to him and she spun around - as best a dragon could, her tail striking him hard. he frowns and hisses
~that was not nice Aer'alyn. I have been nothing but cordial, I can resume the control I had before if You wish it. You do not know the things I could make you do sweet one.~
He uses the bond they now have to take control again, and he takes back the control he had, her eyes widen as she hisses at him, anger and rage in her eyes and mind, he could feel it and it fed his own power
~I have tried not to keep you my prisoner, but you won't trust me Aer'alyn and I won't allow you harm yourself. You will stop now or You will not move until the healing is complete~
she hissed again, her wide blue eyes narrowed ~I have been your prisoner from the start! How can I trust you? You have given me no reason to trust you!~
she looks away and closes her eyes, he could now feel the hate from inside her and he shook his head and let out a huff, he released the hold and turned away, dropping the food he brought for her, he takes to the entrance and then takes to the skies. this time he doesn't place a spell to keep her in, but she doesn't know that her eyes remain closed as she felt the release again and she shifts to her human form.
a slight wince as she moves to the furs and sits, drawing her knees to her chest, closing her eyes, ignoring the deer he brought and the growl of her stomach.
As Zyreil took to the skies he caught a scent and frowns as he follows it to the City which his lair is behind and beneath, this wasn't good. But He wouldn't go back just yet. None were still living that knew of the tunnels except Nraith and He was other wise occupied.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Kez heard the roars and felt the shaking of the mountain, frowning he picks up his pace as he weaves his way through the tunnels trying to find this lair she is being kept in.

Gryvon, the eldest of the fishermen, glanced to Nraith. His gaze then turned to Ktal, remembering well the stories the boy had said when he'd arrived at their village.
"What do you mean changes?" He glanced towards his village, "do you mean other than our journey?"
Rikki, having tugged Ktal over to the water, kicked at it lightly as she spoke to him.
"So, then we found a baby dragon and Sahira punished us, so I ran away and we found Reldai."
"Reldai?" He said, as her tale spun his mind hither and yon with all she'd experienced.
"Yes, by the great oceans."
"You've traveled to the oceans, Rikki?"
"Yes,"
"Come!", the young man grabbed her arm and dragged her towards the small group.
"Gryvon! Rikki has been to the great waters, she has been to the ocean!"
************
Ash walked with Jezraith for some time, listening as Reldai and he spoke quietly. It was after several minutes that he spoke up.
"Rikki is afraid," He looked at Reldai, knowing though that Jezraith would be listening as well.
"I know Ash. Do you know why?" Reldai said softly.
"No, I thought I did, but now I am not certain. She is..." he hesitated.
"She is filled with many emotions, Ash. She is becoming a young woman, and that is hard." Her gaze met Jezraiths over Ash's head.

Nraith kept an eye on Rikki as she spoke with Ktal, he still stood by Gryvon as they talked. nodding at his words, he was about to reply when the answer came from Ktal... He simply smiled, nodding
"The Village is on the move now, they are joining Reldai's village, the two are becoming one"
He knew the changes happening with Rikki, and he would not abandon her to her own emotions, as they can be scary - he knew this only by watching Aer'alyn, and while they were two different races, the female emotions were generally the same. Though she didn't need him persay, she needed Aer'alyn and glanced northward with an intent frown
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Jezraith looked to Ash as Reldai spoke, he wondered though if it was more than Rikki becoming a woman but he would not ask yet. he was not Rikki's favorite person right now, infact he would guess he was at the bottom of any list simply because she didn't want to think about about him, and he couldn't blame her at all.
He walked in silence for now, talking occasionally with Reldai, wondering of Aer'alyn and her fate, who had her and what would happen next in this crazy world which they had created - dangerously and crazy world. His contact with humans brought a sanity back to him and he understood now why others who could shift would spend time in this form - until they were accepted in their dragon form by all this would have to do.
His thoughts turned to the prophecies and he wondered now what his roll would be</i>

"So you have been to the oceans Rikki, perhaps you can tell us about it tonight," Gryvon said before looking at Nraith, "You are welcome to join us," he said offering an invitation for the night. He was not sure what plans would be had, but he found it odd that travelers as the two appeared to be carried so little gear. And for such a trek too.
He glanced over at Rikki as she continued to chatter with the young man. A slight frown crossed his eyes, a frown hastily hidden however.
**********
Reldai kept a steady pace, pausing only now and again for the sick and slow to catch up. She kept her thoughts mainly to herself, but one pressed heavily upon her.
"Jezraith. Tell me, what is it like to live your way. How, from your beliefs, came the enmity between our peoples. Or rather, those inland...and you." She knew he would understand she meant you as a collective and not personal to himself.

Nraith was wary, and yes it seemed odd for two to travel and carry so little, but he would only speak of why if it was required. He didn't know what these people's views where towards his kind as this village seemed newer than the others it would have been left alone
"Thank you for the offer, I gracously accept"
said with a bow of his head, though little did he realize Rikki would not leave his sight or thoughts, she had let him have the back door to her mind and there he stayed so that he would know where she was at all times - should he and her be separated.
His gaze remained on Gryvon as he noticed the frown, licking his lips he could taste the emotion that went with it, this brought concern which he carefully hide within the layers of his mind
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Jezraith walked with them, he too kept his thoughts to himself. He had not attempted to mindspeak with any humans and would not until it was sought out by a human.
Reldai's question brought a thoughtful look to his face followed by a troubled look, and slowly He began the story.
"More than 10 centuries ago this planet was populated with humans and Dragons, We co-existed for 10's of thousands of years prior to that until a group of humans decided that it was time to wage war on the Dragons - The Dragons that had fought with them and died with them in battle. The Fates of Humans and Dragons were intricately woven together. Most enjoyed the companionship of our kind, but those few who thought we were an inferior race decided that they didn't need us. In an effort to destroy us, they themselves were destroyed, all humans died. Those who wanted the their kind to live on took the clutch of two Dragons and changed their dna so that they would be able to shift into a human form. Not all Dragons can shift naturally, some use magic to shift. When your people came to our planet we were a dying race. Not because of a lack of food, for food is in abundance, not for over population as we are not so intent on becoming so dominate, there is a balance which must be kept and we recognize this - especially now. But we were dying because the one thing that brought completion to our species was missing. When you showed up we all knew what it meant, but blind fear of another attempt at our destruction turned your people into animals to be culled when there were too many."
he took a breath and thought of Aer'alyn, letting out a soft breath before he looked to those who now had moved close to listen. He wondered how much to tell them and thought on what words he would use.

Reldai nodded, listening and even more noticing the attention with which others had begun to listen.
"Yes, fear kills many. But first it kills self." She paused looking at Jezraith. "The killing must stop. You know this, as do I. Perhaps though I have been fortunate, we have not experienced that of which you speak." She looked to those of Sahira's village....though they clearly had experienced it.
"Please, go on." she encouraged, believing there was more to the story.
*************
Rikki, keeping a light hand hold of Ktal, chattered as if she'd found a long lost friend. Perhaps, discretion was not her best.
"Tell me about the dragons, Rikki," Ktal asked, watching her with a curious look to his eyes.
Gryvon, listening led the way into the village.
"We have guests for tonight," he said. Several of the villagers gathered around.
"Please come this way to refresh yourself," one of the older women said as she led Nraith to one of the houses. Gryvon, intercepting Nraith asked, "You have supplies at your campsite that need to be brought in?"

Nraith touched Rikki's mind at Ktal's question
~careful please Rikki, careful of what you speak~
his glance was to Rikki, his thoughts were for her alone
he smiles to the woman and waves her off
"I'm fine, but thank You"
he looked to Gryvon, and wondered if he suspected something, Nraith was uneasy, but let the emotion remain hidden, perhaps only Rikki would notice, He stayed as close to Rikki as He could
"No, actually we accidentally left them at our previous camp. We left in haste and that was our mistake. we were lucky to come across you"
which wasn't a lie, it was left there in haste, and that was his error, normally he is not so reckless, he let Jezraith know of the situation with a thought along the dragon link and Others would know shortly after, a band of humans who hadn't encountered his kind could be dangerous.. more to him than to Rikki. He would not want this village harmed, luckily there was very little they could do to keep him from shifting.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Jezraith paused in his thoughts as he recieved word from Nraith, concern touched his features and he sought to find Aer'alyn or her captor in the link to inform them
nodding to Reldai
"Yes, it certainly does. Many of the Elders haven't figured that out, but Yes I do agree - the killing and culling has to stop. There are many that realize this.. Nraith and Khaer'alyn are the two which have brought many to think and rethink what we have been doing."
He thought about what to say and how to say it for a moment
"There was a prophecy within our kind, spoken back after the war ended. Humans would return to our planet, that fear would rule and kill our kind, then there would come One would change the way our kind thinks about the human species. A couple of centuries ago Khaer'alyn was hatched and they started again, and became more detailed. she heard them all, and it became clear they were about her. she was told of the prophecies of old as well. Even before that she began to study the humans and the link that was between them and our people before they destroyed themselves. There are old city ruins all over the planet, she has been to only, but I have seen 3 others. There are few who know of them all, few still alive that know of the old prophecies spoken upon the day of Your arrival."
he pauses and looks to her
"No matter where you are from, you are now a part of this world. this world has made sure of this. it has adapted to Your needs, and the land and ocean know of the hunger that drives you to the ocean."
how could he explain it? He has seen it and he knows others have.He knows the planet will continue to adapt and change to meet the needs of these humans. Over the years the inland rivers have grown wider and deeper, from the mountains they flow east and west to the ocean. More rivers have appeared as well, making canals and waterways. As though to say.. you are welcome. He will show her one day the old maps.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Kez drew closer to the lair when he heard something inside and stopped
Aer'alyn blinks and looks out
~Zyriel~
~Yes Aer'alyn, I heard that too. Come and we will go togehter~
she moved to the entrance and he was there circling, she stretched out her wings and into the air she went, it felt good to fly again, she rises into the air and moves along side Zyriel
~thank you~
~He is important to you, and I will not get in between you and your friends, as long as they do not try to kill me~
she nodded, that was her only reply, you would mate with her soon, she hoped her heat would stay away long enough to come to Nraiths aid if it was needed and for her to return. she really didn't feel like fighting off a hoard of males and the strongest would come from far away to join with her.
Kez entered the lair just after she left and wondered what was wrong, he searched the link, but decides to follow them instead. he moved to the entrance and shifts then leaps into the air, wings snap out. he stays far enough behind to not be seen, keeping high enough to keep them insigth - even if just barely

Rikki stumbled over her words as Nraith spoke to her. Her gaze turning to him as she blushed a rosy hue. ~Ok~, she thought to Nraith.
"No, tell me about what happened with you Ktal, how you came here. Are there others from the village?" Her own lively curiosity laced her words, and for the moment, no one but Nraith was aware of how quicksilver her change of moods could...and would..become.
Gryvon nodded, speaking to Nraith. "Well, we can't have that. We can get a small party up in the morning and return to your supplies. I wouldn't do to leave them." Yes, it was now very evident he was suspicious of this man and girl who arrived on their shore.
*********
Reldai listened closely, a slight smile crossing her eyes. "Yes, it feels more like home as the years pass. Something, " she said reflectively, musing inner thoughts. "Something, pulls from within." She looked to Jezraith, meeting his gaze. "But you understand that, don't you. For you too are drawn from within, for a different reason. But drawn, nonetheless."

Nraith knew it was futile and that he could not avoid telling Gryvon the truth. did Gryvon see the cloud that descended and then disappeared in the distance? It was possible
"Gryvon, I wish to speak with You"
he moves to edge of the camp
~come Rikki, join us. If they see me as a threat they may try to separate us~
He paused, waiting for Rikki to join him, then continued to the edge of the Camp. He made a promise to Khaer'alyn and he would not break it. If they tried to separate Rikki from him, they would find it very difficult. He had never shifted from human to Dragon with a human on his back, but he would try if it was necessary.
as they reached the edge of the Camp, just the three of them, he turned to Gryvon, making sure though that Gryvon was between him and camp
"Gryvon, I tell you this in trust. I am Dragon. Rikki is my Rider"
it felt good to say that and he said it with a smile
"If I appear wary it is because my kind have not met with great acceptance with out terror and the need to try and kill us. I would like to avoid conflict as we are on Journey back to the ocean to meet up with Reldai and the village Rikki is from."
He could feel Aer'alyn and the other upon the link
~We are coming Nraith, if you are in need of assistance~
we, he wondered who the other is, though he would guess that he shall find out soon enough
~Thank you Aer'alyn, though I wish not this village or it's people destroyed.~
~Rikki, if we have to leave in a hurry, jump on my back~
He waited for Gryvon to reply, watching carefully, his eyes having already shifted from the human eyes he gave as appearance, his senses where alert and on over drive at the moment, if he were in dragon form his ears would be moving constantly
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Aer'alyn rode the thermals as though she'd never been hurt, oh this felt good. She reached through the link to her friend Nraith and told him they were coming. His reply... she respected, she would not want to see them destroyed. Their pressence alone may be enough to keep the villagers from harming Nraith and Rikki.
Zyriel looked to her hearing the words through the link he nods
~We will stay high and out of sight of the humans once we arrive. We do not want to appear as a threat right off the bat. Nraith is a good Negotiator~
she nods her head
~we only show ourselves if there is a threat, but we do not attack unless they insist on attacking us~
it was agreed then as the passed over Jezraith, Reldai and the others, she looked down
~Jez, I am alright. We are on our way to Nraith and Rikki~
they did'nt stop though, there would be time later to visit her friends, though she did give Ash and Reldai a soft touch to their minds, without a word they would know she was near and would be back later.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Kez was to follow them, but with Zyriel out of his lair under the city he thought it would be a perfect time to go to the lower archives, turning he went back to the city and entered the way he did the first time. He knew now who it was that had Aer'alyn and he chuckles to himself
~crazy bastard~
taking her as a mate would prove to be.... more than he could imagine and Kez continues to chuckle to himself.
As he reached the city he shifts again and moves down into the lowest of rooms, to the archives - the books most important to their kind and to humankind as well. He saw the changes the planet had made over the centuries, soon he would pass, but not before he wrote his observations in the ancient tongue of his kind and not before he saw Aer'alyn to be safe.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Jezraith felt her touch through the link and nods
~Thank you Aer'alyn. I hope to see you soon~
he smiles visibly and turns to Reldai, nodding
"Oh yes, my kind has known for a great many centuries, but the elder ones, and those hatched shortly after your arrival still lived in fear. They passed that fear down to their clutches" he paused and smiled "Offspring. who passed it along to theirs. There were many who did not live in fear and they would not take part in the culling. They passed along the hope to their clutches, some lost the hope as years went on, like my great grand Sire and grand Sire, they passed that to my Sire who passed it to myself. But with Aer'alyn's obvious liking of humans hope returns to our Kind. Nraith just called Rikki his rider when talking to other humans. That is a great honor among out kind."
he sighs softly, looking about, letting his senses reach out, tasting the air and noting Aer'alyn's passing as well as the other dragon who took her, there were other scents which he could taste just none which would bring alarm.. yet

Rikki glanced over to Nraith as she felt the words in her mind. "Nraith needs to talk to me," she said to Ktal, not thinking that he had not heard Nraith speaking to her. He stared at her a moment, "What are you talking about Rikki, he wants to talk to Gryvon," Ktal motioned to Gryvon who moved towards the edge of the camp with Nraith. She shrugged, tugging her hand from his as she said, "I'll be right back" She turned and half ran towards Nraith, missing the glowering look that Ktal aimed towards her. He turned, walking towards a row of houses from where he hid as he circled around to listen in.
"What is it?" Rikki asked as she came to them. The question put to answer as Nraith spoke to Gryvon. Gryvon, for all his age, showed the shock he felt. "Yes, we have heard or you. You have nearly wiped out entire villages. Several who have found their way here, were burned out. Families destroyed. You'd do well to keep it silent." He glance to his village, eyes reflecting the burden he had been under.
"He's nice, and so are the others I've met. Well, some of the others..." she admitted truthfully her eyes flashing angrily for a moment. The look grabbed Gryvon's attention. "What are you saying Rikki, some dragons...still kill."
She swallowed, pursing her lips into a frown. "Yes," it was evident she was still harboring anger towards Jezraith. As she spoke, she felt the light touch from Aeralyn. She smiled at Nraith. "She's ok.....good." Her eyes flickering from gladness to hardness and back.
Two houses away, hidden beyond a rock wall Ktal listened. It was not for nothing he was the best hunter. He could hear even the barest brush of wind on leaves. He'd heard enough. As Rikki spoke, he slipped back towards the center of the village losing himself in the small crowd.
Gryvon had listened to Rikki as well, and saw the light of pleasure burn in her eyes. He shook his head. "You tell me of danger to yourself. Of us wanting to kill you. Yet I have never heard of a man killing a dragon, but I have heard many tales of dragons and their death dealing."
Gryvon looked to Rikki, "I think you should leave," he looked to Nraith, "both of you..."
Rikki blinked suddenly, shaking her head. "What, why? What did we do? Just cause he's a dragon you're gonna kick us out. We can't even stay the night.!" She thought his words were unfair, and she was not adverse to letting anyone know. As it was her voice rose in pitch and drew the attention of others.
***********
Ash grinned at Reldai, running to her as he flung his arms about her. "Reldai, she is ok."
Reldai laughed softly, hugging Ash. "Yes, I know. It is as it should be, Ash. " She smiled at the youth, then to Jezraith. Her eyes whispered her relief as she continued to listen to Jezraith.
"Hmmm, what is that like, to be a rider?" Her curiosity had been piqued.

Nraith looked at Gryvon and tilted his head
"Do I look like I'm in a position to defeat you? I carry no weapons, one blow, one hit in the right place and in this form you could end my life. And yes in the past we have killed, this is changing. It started with Rikki's village. A Blue risked her life to keep the village safe, I am her friend. You turn us away because of a perceived threat, yet this village has never been sought after by our kind. In fact, many dragons fly over this village unseen every day and they do not attack."
He shook his head softly "Inland humans are all alike" patting Rikki's shoulder "With the exception of You and Ash. Let's go Rikki, it's clear we are not wanted here. I'm sorry, I thought they were different"
there was disappointment in her his voice, his senses were in alert mode, he could soon feel Aer'alyn and Zyriel were close by.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Jezraith looked to Reldai and chuckled, then a sigh left his lips, "I couldn't tell you Reldai, I have heard it is wonderful. Perhaps I will take you to the archives one day and you can read some of the accounts."
a smile to Ash, nodding, she is ok, physically, though he suspected so much right now, wondered at her mental state, but those thoughts and worries went unspoken and did not touch his face.

Rikki, though feeling the comforting pat on her shoulder shook her head. "No Nraith, I won't. He's wrong. He's just like Sahira, refusing to see things any different than what he expects!" she was nearly shouting in her anger.
Ktal, having sat next to the well wall, winced as he heard her words. Having known Sahira, it was the deepest of insults to speak of such to Gryvon. He hesitated, then pushed his way through the crowd that half listened though they gave the appearance of being busy with other things.
"Rikki shut-up!" he shouted. "You're wrong. He is not like Sahira and I should know!" Ktal moved next to Rikki grabbing her arms and shaking her so much her teeth clacked together. It was clear Ktal was shaking from furiousness. "I don't know what your problem is, but stop it!"
He spun and growled out the words at Gryvon, "I'm sorry, but you're wrong. You said all who came here are welcome, no matter where they were from. Did you only mean those you agreed with? Do you make a lie of your own words?!"
He turned on Rikki again, remembering their many arguments as children. Back then it seemed as if Rikki won nearly all of them, but this he was determined she would lose. "Quit arguing." He shook her again for good measure.
She gasped, surprised at his attack. Jerking away from him she slapped him across his face, before swinging back her foot and kicking him below his knee. Her ouch and his mingled as he nursed both his cheek and his leg. She meanwhile hopped on one foot as pain shot up her foot and leg. She'd forgotten she'd not worn her hardsole boots.
Ash, with Reldai winced as well, as Rikki in her anger buffeted his thoughts with her words.
~~Rikki?~~ he tried to speak through the anger she bore though it was clear she was not listening to anyone.
Ktal grabbed her again, shaking her. "Rikki!" he shouted again at her as she glared up at him. As their eyes met both came completely silent and even the villagers dared to not breathe.
************
Ash again tried to speak to Rikki, then frowned puzzled. He could almost hear the silence inside of Rikki and it scared him. What could shut Rikki up?
Reldai, noting the expressions on Ash's face gently placed her hand on his shoulder, a silent expression of support. Her words were for Jezraith.
"I think I would rather experience it, or am I too old?"

New Beginnings

words could not describe the feeling of remorse he felt of the attempt at the village, and he knew he would be met with resistance if he went there in dragon form, but could he expose himself to harm in human form.
he flew nearer the village and by all accounts he could sense they were getting ready to leave.
