::I see you Rikki, I am here...I will not let you go Rikki::
She gripped his hand tightly, warmth beginning to enfusing her. She licked at her lips, feeling as dry and parched as if she had been walking in a desert instead of the cold darkness.
She could not let go, would not let go. He was...she felt, life to her. Her voice lightly touched him. ~always~ At that touch a rolling deep shudder swept through her and he could feel her relax within the cocoon of his body as it was curled around her.
Ktal, feeling her relax, watched her. An uneasieness swept through him. He felt something was happening, something he couldn't grasp. He touched her cheek, "Rikki?" The question in his mind, however, was "Rikki, are you there?"
He swallowed the next words, ...for me....leaving them unsaid, but deeply felt. What had happened to them?

he smiled, he felt it just as deeply as she did and it made him take a breath.
He didn't need words, but slowly drew her out of her own darkness, leading her towards the light before them. He was ever aware what was going on, he was ever aware and did not take this mind walk lightly. But he would not let her die, he could not.
Ktal would see Nraith visibly relax as well, his large eyes not quite closed would shift slightly, but he didn't move except a deep exhale of breath and a slow relaxed inhale to follow. He was vaguely aware of Ktal's presence at that moment.
Yes something was happening. A Dragon and rider were born. It was something that many of even his kind would not be able to grasp, there would be a few, but others would rise against it. It would not be easy for either of them, she would feel every emotion he felt and vise versa. A Bond that was almost comparable in strength to that of two who were joined as mates. It had to be, they had to trust each other with their lives. It was clear that Rikki trusted him, and he trusted her with his own.
when they reached the light.. she would be able to wake, that was the door that would take both of them from that darkness, and as the door opens, it floods the place with light and life..

She sighed softly, a melting moan that breathed through her lips. Ktal sat up quickly, pressing his lips together to hold back his own moan, but one that came from pain. The ache in his head continued to throb. He blew out a slight breath, brushing Rikki's hair from her temple. "Rikki?" he asked again.
She smiled, as if dreaming a sweet dream. A soft murmer of a whisper, "Nraith?" her head tipped as if rubbing her head in a caressing motion against Nraith.
Ktal frowned, not liking the sound of that. For it was more than a name, it was as if she longed for Nraith. "Rikki?!" he shook her sharply, trying to draw her attention to him. "Rikki?!"
Her eyelids flashed open and she gasped sharply as she woke to his grip.

he smiled as well. even in his dragon form, though most humans would say that dragons don't smile, but there would be little to mistake this for anything but a smile.
He felt Rikki's caress. Yes it was a longing, but that of a Rider to her Dragon. It was an intimate bond, though not as intimate as if they were mated, still there would be a deep affection for the dragon by the rider, and by the dragon for his rider - there had to be, there could be nothing else, otherwise it was just a human hitching a ride with a dragon.. Rikki and Nraith would soon learn to work as a team and she would discover new things about herself, gifts and abilities that would amaze even herself.. he had not heard of it happening since before he was hatched, this would be exciting and new, and maybe a bit scary.
Nraith's eyes began to open as Ktal's words reached his ears, but it was Rikki's sharp gasp and sudden flood of emotion that filled him that got his attention, he shifted and looked down at Ktal, not giving Rikki a chance to respond
Ktal would hear the deep rumbles of his dragon voice
"You'd best be careful, young one, just how you handle my Rider"
his eyes shifted from blue to a deep deep blue, almost black but definitely still blue. The stress he put on "young one" was to emphasize that he was much older than Ktal and much crankier too than even Gryvon, and that he was just the right size for a snack.. if he wasn't careful

(oh that got me to laughing..righteous)
Ktal's shock was tenfold. "Rider?" He pushed against Nraith, struggling to his feet. His emotion was deeper than the strength of his legs and he stumbled, muttering darkly at his weakness. Stepping over, falling down he stalked to the other side of the cave before sitting down. His movements jerky, it was more from force of feeling than bodily effort that put him there. He glared at Nraith, wanting to dare him, yet knowing he was no match for the dragon.
Rikki paid no attention to Ktal, her whole being felt as if she were wrapped in the soul of Nraith. She smiled, licking at her lips as she registered her thirst. She felt warm, comforted....and...
Away with Reldai, Ash sat up slowly, his head canted to one side as if he were trying to puzzle out a mystery. "Happy?", he spoke, but not to Reldai or je'raith. More to himself did the word come. he smiled, he did not know what it was but Rikki felt happy. How long ago had he known her to feel such?
Rikki breathed in a slow breath as she settled to a resting state next to Nraith. Tiredness suddenly swept through her and she yawned. The yawn grew into a soft laugh as she touched the side of Nraith's head. He could clearly see, and hear, she would die for him.
So too did Ktal, and his glower became deeper. As deep as the longing he felt for Rikki at the moment they stared into each others eyes.

"Yes, Rider. It is a great honor to be called such. She is the first in more than 2 centuries. The last died before I hatched, before the wars." It gave an idea just how old he was, without saying it.
Nraith watched the young human stumble away. He could taste the anger, confusion and shock, but he didn't hinder the young man, he was weary and wanted to sleep. He would not though, not yet.
but he did lay his head down as Rikki relaxed into a resting state
::sleep young rider. You will need your rest::
he would not sleep as long as Ktal was angry, and Nraith would only fully explain once the young man calmed down. Rikki's euphoria was expected, the emotion was a lot, even for humans who shared emotions with each other. The emotions of a Dragon were usually extreme as she would find out soon enough, for now Nraith would rest in a wakeful state.
He knew Ash knew Rikki was ok and sent it to Aer'alyn and J'raith, both of of whom knew right away what had taken place.
::Rikki is safe and well::
He didn't need to say more, but it made both smile even as he shut himself to the to rest and not worry his young rider, using the freshness of the bond the way Zyreil had, though only shutting her off from the link to keep her mind from being overwhelmed.
Aer'alyn grinned and looked to Zyreil and the others
::Nraith has taken a rider::
Galventh chuckled, but then grew serious
::so it begins::
Zyreil and her Dam both nodded, she looked to them confused as Zyreil went on to explain why he did what he did. His tail wrapped lightly around Aer'alyn.
she didn't fight what was being said until..
::It is as it should be::
that was her Dam - Arlianth, she looked to her and her Sire, and Zyreil and all agreed - except her
::As it should be? As it should be? Really? Then why do I not agree? Why was I not consulted? As it should be? So that thing taking me against my will, joining himself to me as my mate against my will and without my permission is 'as it should be?'::
she growled again and moved away from Zyreil and the others, when he tried to talk to her she glared at him
::Aer'alyn.. pl..
and shut everyone of them out, everyone, his words cut off with what can be considered the slamming of a door only in his mind making him wince.
She spread out her wings and lifted into the air, rising high as the thermals took her up, her normally sapphire blue eyes were a dark dark blue, almost black as rage flowed through her.. she was angry, horribly angry
.. And hurt, her anger as she rose higher would fade to pain and hurt, deep aching hurt. she turned as she reached the heights, turned and flew to lands which her kind had yet to really explore. She would be the first, it was either that or kill her 'mate', and she knew even she couldn't do that.
Galventh stopped Zyreil
::Let her go, you will only make it worse by chasing after her::
Arlianth looked to Galventh, a knowing look, and private words shared.
Zyreil nods to Gal's words. He knew he was right, but it hurt him that she hurt so much. He hoped she would open herself up to him again and let him help her through it. even if it meant he had to get his tail kicked hard by her. He would not fight his mate, his ..soulmate
J'raith looked at Ash, then Reldai. Rikki is safe. He would explain later. But he knew what happened had just shifted the course of history, for the world, not just Dragonkind and humankind, but all this planet. It would be good, just when the good would come was yet to be seen.

Rikki feeling only a deep pleasure of happiness closed her eyes, curling up close to Nraith. His warmth felt like a layer of warm blankets without the heaviness. It was almost as nice as the ocean had felt. She thought nothing could feel as good as that had made her feel. Touching her mind lightly to Ash's she slipped into a restful sleep, unaware that just across the cavern lay a young man. Ktal continued to watch the two until sheer weariness forced his eyes to close. He grumbled from within, from anger...and more from a growing fear. What if Rikki failed to recognize him as he had recognized her? Trying to rest, hoping the ache within his head would soon abate, he tried to sleep. For no other reason than Rikki, and being there for her. Far beneath the surface of the land, ground plate pushed against another, causing pressure that would soon release a fissure that would crack the surface and draw water from the snowy lofty mountain top to the great sea to the east. One more river that would widen and flood the creeks and streams into rivers themselves. Within a month the lowest land would become a new sea. ***
Reldai finished tucking Ash with a blanket, settling him by the fire. The boy was finally relaxed enough to sleep. She had to chuckle watching him sleep with a smile upon his face. She'd seen little enough of that lately with both of them. It was good to see him be the child he was. Keeping silent for a time, she fixed a night tea, pouring a cup, then glancing at Je'raith, poured one for him. "If you care to have some?" she offered the small cup before settling down next to him. "Tell me, is Rikki in danger? What will happen now?" It seemed what she'd planned, what Rikki had planned would be...changed, but in what way she was uncertain. And that uncertainty troubled her the most. *** Gryvon was taking no chances, strange man, stories or not, that uneasy feeling he'd had since Rikki had shown up had grown. It grew even deeper when the other explained he was a dragon. Without a word given to the others, Tuk let loose the arrow that was sighted to pierce the old man.

Nraith watched the boy sleep. He felt for the boy, he could feel the emotions the boy had for Rikki. He was unsure how this would affect any feelings she had for him. She did have them, he felt them and would encourage the two, if she still felt the same way. But right now only time would tell.
He watched the boy a while longer. It was important that he stay, it was important for Rikki as well. He would keep watch, keep guard, though not that any one without wings would be able to reach these caves. He knew they were safe.
Je'raith watched Reldai tuck Ash in, he smiled in silent thought, then continued to watch her as she remained silent and made tea.
As she offered he nods, then takes the cup from her, taking a sip
"She is as safe as she was before, probably more so now. She will grow and develop new gifts." he paused a moment then added "She has become Nraith's Rider. She is the first in more than 2 centuries. It will change Dragonkind. She will learn what all dragonriders must learn. It will not be easy. Dragons are.. emotional creatures. Usually of extremes. If a rider is unprepared or does not prepare it can overwhelm and drive them crazy. Nraith will not, however, allow that to happen."
He sips his tea once more in thought.. a rider.. that was an intriguing thought indeed.
it was a Kez expected, tilting his head, his staff, rises to deflect the arrow to the right causing it to land harmlessly in the bush
"Now that was not very nice Tuk. And Gryvon, from everything I have heard, I expected more from you. Why do you hunt so high? What do you hunt?"
he spoke calmly, like a wise old man, his eyes gazed thoughtfully, he did not raise his staff except for the deflection, he did not raise his voice nor get angry, he had always been the voice of reason and many trusted him. It would only be a matter of time to see if Gryvon either attacked again or would trust he was not a harm to anyone.
he felt Aer'alyn go overhead, a brief shadow that would appear to be a cloud. This was not good, he would seek her out later, for now his gaze and attention remained on the two men before him.
That was a mild understatement actually. It will revolutionize Dragonkind and this world.

As Je'raith spoke, Reldai grew more concerned. Dragons were emotional creatures? She gave a soft sigh, Rikki was the most emotional person she knew. The girl was stubborn, opinionated, angered easily and forgave....well, from what she knew, that was nearly impossible. Rikki never forgot a slight. And to forgive, well nye impossible. She sipped at her tea, listening to the night before asking, "what things will she learn? How will it change..you?" She had started to speak in generalities, yet as she said the last word, it became personal and she wondered about him. He was a strong man..... :no, a dragon, in man form: she told herself, as she again sipped an waited for his response. Yet....... *** "Creatures" Gryvon said shortly, not bothering to be courteous, that was something he did not feel obliged to be. Giving his me a gesture with his head, he motioned them to continue on. He did not trust the crazy old fool and was determined this....interruption...would not derail his plans.

J'raith new well Rikki's anger and unforgiving way, she would learn though to forgive and learn to understand and take control of her emotions. Its what every dragon learns, what they have to learn or they turn rogue
"She will learn our ways, she will discover things about herself - some will surprise her and others will disgust her, but she will learn to look past them, and take control of her own raw emotions. She will, unfortunately, learn war and fighting in ways she never dreamed and will likely at first terrify her."
he looked up to her, he knew she would be concerned, and continued
"Nraith is well almost 2 centuries old. While he has not had a rider before, none of us that live now have, he is wise and will protect her with his life. They will learn to trust each other. Their bond is almost as strong as that of two joined for mating, the emotions run deep, but they have to. It is that bond that will keep them both alive now longer than they would have lived separate"
he chuckles
"Poor Nraith will not see his end any time soon. And Rikki's life span could easily double, if not triple or .. even more. But it is an honor to carry the title of Dragonrider with our kind. Even as fragmented and broken as we are, they will honor what she is, even if they do not understand it"
that was the thing though, would they want to understand it? Some will, some have sought the memories of their ancestors to see what can be, but others will fight it. That is where the war and fighting will come. It is the ugly side of change.
"It gives me hope that perhaps what they have said is true. That change will come and it is already starting even now. I can feel things through the link that.. " he shakes his head "Its hard to explain"
he looked to Reldai, then to the sky a moment. She is human, not dragon.. she ..l e let that thought slip away into the farthest reaches of his mind for now where it will lie undistrubed until it seeks light once more
Kez nods to the men, "Why do you seek the creatures? What have they done? Did they kill anyone from the village? May I help you find them?" he sought to understand, and maybe make Gryvon see he is wrong in his opinion, or at least make those who follow him question something. He watched in silence, he could make them stay
Aer'alyn moved south, heading to the region across the small sea. Well it wasn't small, it would be no small task to cross it, but it was not the Great sea
(will continue Aer'alyn on another thread)

"I see", Reldai said softly as she inhaled a quiet sigh. She pondered over hsi words for several minutes before asking. "Her life span will double...or more? Does that.....happen, for every...ahh..rider? This concept intrigued her. If it enhanced life, was it simply young life or..any life. What of the impaired, would that change? She took another sip, then stared at the liquid in the cup. So many things she thought she knew, things she had known and now.....so much she didn't know.
"People are,.....difficult...at times,"she murmered softly to herself. For the moment, remembering back to all the times she had to play mediator to some....issue. She glanced up to the sky and wondered, what would it be like to leave all cares behind and fly into the clouds losing onself in the vastness?

J'raith nods, "yes it could. Usually it does simply because the Rider and Dragon are bonded. It is something we have not spoken of in years. I have read texts about it, but not in depth. It will be new. And because you are different in someways than the humans that were here before, it will present something new for us."
he watched Reldai as she spoke of people, nodding, "Dragons too" then he watched as she looked up to the sky, smiles softly
::Would you like a ride?::
the touch to her mind was gentle, he gazed to her and smiled, it was almost an 'I dare you' smile

:you are a foolish woman: Reldai said to herself as she, as casually as she could, set the cup down. "Yes, I think I would", she said as a light younger than herself lit her eyes. Catching his smile, she gave him one that matched it. It was as if she said, "I think I could dare many things with you," and perhaps she would if the eager anticipation that gripped her stomach were any indication.

J'raith grinned and set the cup down as well, rising he took her hand, lead her outside the camp
he released her hand and stepped away to shift, the large red dragon looks to her, lowering himself.. lowering himself. That was a new feeling. The only time he did this was when an elder stepped on him because he was being disrespectful, but this felt good
::climb on::
he grins, glancing to Ash, he would be upset to have missed this, but he would ride soon enough. The anticipation of a rider sent a shudder through him inwardly. Was this what Nraith felt when Rikki rode? If it was..
he pushed the thoughts away, this was just a ride..
oh.. but was it JUST a ride?

Her heart began to race as she looked upon him in dragonform. "oh, you're..."she started to say before pausing as she rested her hand upon one of the ridges of his neck.
Reldai suddenly felt this was not a moment to rush. Unaware of just how, her hand had begun a light caress upon his neck as if gently comforting someone. She licked at her lips, drew a deep breath and tried to settle upon his back near his neck.
Both hands now lightly touching his neck she inhaled deeply. Then smiled to herself. That's what that smell was. She'd been puzzling over it for some time and realized, even as a man, there was a scent about him. Being this close in his dragon guise, she now could see...
She thought she would know him anywhere. "Here?" she asked to be sure where to hold to. Her excitement beginning to build she almost hugged him with that rush of pure adreneline.
