Nraith watched almost in amusement as Rikki kicked Ktal and hit him. He hid it well though, didn't let it leak through his thoughts to Rikki, but Aer'alyn felt it and it made her chuckle to herself. This was a serious moment though. What would happen? Gryvon could b a dangerous man. He could attack them both, though it would be to his detriment as he doesn't know of the two that watch in silence.
As Rikki begins to hop around on one foot he move to her and takes a hold of her
"Come Rikki, it's not worth it"
he lifts her up so she doesn't have to walk on the now sore foot. As well if he needed to change quickly he could act as a shield to protect his rider
[r]
she listened to what went on and his thoughts, chuckling within herself
::Nraith, why do you keep calling her your rider?::
she was curious. She had heard about the Dragonrider and Dragonkin, but had not really been taught as some others had what they mean and what they do. it's something she would have to learn of and look up in the archives of the old city
Zyreil watches as well,
I will teach you of the Rider and Kin Aer'alyn
she almost growled at him, but had to stop herself. he would know her innermost thoughts and it annoyed her still. she thumps him with her tail and he just gives her a look back
Kez began to write. He must find the two and teach them the ancient tongue of their kind. There were parchments and books that they needed to read if they were going to do as the prophecies fortold. yes, it spoke of both, but rarely did they speak of Him, everyone knew who it was. There has only ever been one Great Black in hibernation, he was feared - and rightly so. He was a large black, with a great many abilities that seemed to elude most of dragonkind. though he believed even he didn't know most of what he could do because he didn't have the mate he needed to complete those gifts. Was she really the one? Nraith had done a good job of teaching her, but there was much she didn't know and needed to know, they both needed to know. Zyreil was only 500 years younger than him. but there was much about the history of this world that even he didn't know. Much that even though hidden, still existed today. How would they take to the information? How would the rest of his kind take it?

Rikki's face was stricken as Nraith scooped her up. Ktal kept his eyes on them and though initially silent, eventually spoke. "Rikki, ...I"
Rikki, having wrapped her arms around Nraiths' neck stiffened at hearing her name. Only Nraith could hear the soft choke of a sob from her throat as her face was hidden against his neck. Though he knew her foot had bore a sharp pain, it was little to the pain that darted through her. Why?
Ash, frowned and started to speak. Then he too grew even more silent and puzzled.
Gryvon clenched his hands and turned on his heel, heading away from them. Then he muttered a soft growl, turning again to face them. It was clear he was of two minds, which would he follow?
Within Nraiths careful embrace, Rikki drew in a deep breath in an effort to hold at bay the tears that shook her. She would not, she could not give into the combined pent up anger, the hurt, and the utter shock of feeling like someone just stared into her soul. Not someone. Not just any someone.
In a similar state, though hiding it well, Ktal stepped back and stared at Rikki. His frowning gaze turned to Nraith, looking deep into his eyes. The movement of Gryvon as he begin to return to them caused him to flick his gaze to the elder. He shook his head, a whisper of word to Gryvon. "No.....no."
Gryvon glanced to the crowd that had started to come together at Rikki's earlier loudly spoken words. A quick slight horizontal movement of his hands brought Ktal to a run as he rushed to Nraith.... and to Rikki. "Get her out of here!" he yelled as he came between Gryvon and the other two.

Aer'alyn watched from the distance with Zyreil, she could taste the anger and hate that was stirring in the mind of Gryvon, she cast a glance to Zyreil
::Nraith, flight now!::
it was at that moment she heard the other tell him to get Rikki out of there.
Nraith was running and still holding Rikki in front of him with his arms.
::Not with Rikki in my arms and it's too dangerous to put her down::
Aer'alyn rose into the air with Zyreil beside her. She went to dive down and Zyreil dove past her
::I will take them::
he didn't wait for a reply, the very large black came diving down, two claws reached out to scoop up Nraith and Rikki, holding them tight enough not to drop them but not so tight as to squish them.
Nraith was surprised at the claws that took hold of them
::You have woken after all these years. It is good you have returned::
that was only for Zyreil who grunted his agreement.
Behind them Aer'alyn had gone into a dive as well, cutting off the young Ktal to ensure Zyreil got their friends out without issue. Her tail swiping a few feet in front of him to slow him or at least make him think twice about continuing after them. If he had a mind to he could probably reach out and touch her tail. The combined down draft of her and Zyreil's wings would knock anyone close by to ground
as she rose she could hear the commotion on the ground, the two of them could have killed everyone of them and only got away with a few scratches or cuts, maybe a hole from a spear or two. They, like her own people remained blind. Zyreil could feel her frustration and sent calm her way, which she welcomed. This mate thing might not be such a bad idea, but she would never openly admit it or admit it where he would know she had.
::to the waterfall::
came direction from Nraith, and the two of them turned to the north east, a direction easily seen by the other humans, but the place they would land was not so close that they would be in any harm.

The commotion continued as the dragons and Rikki were lifting higher towards the east. Some of the villagers lay felled on the ground, others rising to their knees watched the dragons flight.
Feeling he was losing control of what had taken years to gain, Gryvon stalked to Ktal as he lay spread on the ground where he had fallen from the downthrust of the dragons. Ktal's hand just missed the stirred dust that remained from the swish of dragon tail as it had met the ground. Rolling to his back, he saw Gryvon tower over him.
Gryvon's fear manifested in deeper anger, for who did not fight when their fear was the highest? Only women and little children fled at fear. Men stood...men fought. Men ruled this village and no young woman would bring tales and disrupt their way. The thoughts hurled through his mind as he stared at the younger man. A sharply barked command to two of his croney's brought them running as he kicked out towards Ktal.
Ktal nearly to his knees winced in anticipation as the booted foot came nearer. The wince changed to a deep moan of pain as he fell again to the ground. The grooved marks from Gryvon's boot clearly upon Ktal's temple as he lay in the dust. Moments later he was tied and carried to the houses to be secured. Gryvon glanced to where he last saw the dragons, bringing whispered words and intent to his action.
Rikki, after losing her breath from the quick updraft and flight, gasped deeply. Her gaze skirted the ground watching the men below. Nraith and Zyreil could feel her whole body shudder as she saw Gryvon reach Ktal. They could feel the jerk and stiffening of her body as he was felled. They could feel the weight of her body as she moaned, darkness sweeping over her.
And with Redai, Ash began to cry as he curled into himself and hugged a blanket tight.

Nraith held tightly to Rikki, but concern grew as he touched the young girl's mind to speak and saw what she felt, his grip on her grew tighter as they flew towards the waterfall.
::Zyreil, we have to go back and get him::
Zyreil nodded, and growled, they thought he was attacking, how could they have known his intent?
::We shall, we will not leave him behind::
Nraith was satisfied. Rikki was important to himself and Aer'alyn, and this was not a good development
Je'raith saw Ash curl into a ball and begin to rock and cry. He came over to the boy and sat with him, his arm around him. He could think of nothing to say in comfort so he simply drew the boy to himself and held him
his thoughts carried to Nraith and Aer'alyn
::What has happened?::
Aer'alyn was angry with herself, Zyreil could feel it but didn't say anything, she kept her intent well hidden from them
Nraith replied to Je'raith ::Rikki and I were attacked, there is a problem with Rikki.::
Je'raith grew concerned and touched the mind of the young boy with comfort, but his thoughts were drawn to the three other dragons
::do you need my help?:: He would go, if he was asked, but it would tough for him to leave this group.
::No J'raith, stay with Ash. He needs you right now. Others are joining us, if only to keep watch on Rikki while we go solve the problem:: Nraith would have welcomed his help, but he was needed elsewhere at that moment. There was still risk that the Rogues would attack them, but now it was slim. They would be directed to this village that would so blatantly attack another dragon.
Though his concern turned to Aer'alyn, thoughts shared by her new mate as she was very very quiet now
she should have known, she should have realized that the other men were attacking Ktal. she huffed as quietly as she could, she had to go back and right this.. her thoughts touched Rikki's mind
::I'm sorry Rikki. I let you down::
she didn't say another word, and turned, heading back, but flying high so she would not be seen as she went towards the village.
Zyreil heard Aer'alyn slow, then turn, he growled
::No Aer'alyn! You are not strong enough yet!::
but she was already on her way, and her mind was closed to all now.
Nraith looked up to the black that held him when Zyreil sent his thoughts to him
::I will wipe out the entire village if she is harmed! But first, we must get Rikki to safety::
Nraith chuckled to himself with drew a quick squeeze from Zyreil
::No point in getting mad at me, You are the one who joined yourself to her::
Zyreil could not argue, he had a small idea what he was getting himself into, very very small.
Kez stopped writing and paused, he linked to his son, which caused him to twitch a little, but he did not say anything, the two conversed a moment, then Kez closed off his mind again.
Rising from his seat he started towards the doors, he slipped out and into the deep courtyard, there he shifts and with a few beats of his wings he rises into the air.
Something had changed.
He flew quickly towards the south, towards Aer'alyn.
And as he did, her sire, Dam and grand sire joined the others at the waterfall

(ooc - loved Nraiths comment and chuckle, priceless) (bic) They arrived at the waterfall, Rikki being placed gently upon the ground. Her breathing slowed, becoming shallow, then raspy as if her lungs could not draw enough air to inflate them. Her flesh grew paler, fingertips becoming tinged and darkening. *** Cara, who had been the welcoming woman, turned her face away from Ktal as the pail of water was tossed upon him. He gasped, drawing in a sharp breath and peered though the dim room. Her shadow beckoned him. "I can not", he whispered through the pounding pain in his head. Regret upon her face, she glanced out the door. How long? How much? "You must try," she replied as she hurried to him. She withdrew a palm knife and cut his bonds. "They will not be gone long, you must try," she repeated. As the tether fell, she pressed the knife to his hands. "hurry!", were her last words as she rushed from the building. Ktal felt bile rise in his throat as he started to move. His vision blurred as he fell to his knees. "Rikki, are you ok?" The last remembered sight of her burned in his eyes as he staggered to his feet and eased to the doorway. Cara, drew the attention of most of the villagers with her call to the meal. She caught his movement from the corner of her eye, whispering softly to herself, "hurry...you must hurry." As Cara coverted with Ktal, Gryvon lead a smaller group of men towards the treeline that skirted the village that led to the mountain. Various caches of weapons were stashed, a safeguard in case of attack, let them arm themselves both inside and outside the village. Hunting trails meandering though the woods led upwards to the mountains and south towards the valley. Ktal drew a breath, leaned against the wall and looked towards where the men disappeared into the trees. Fighting back the nausea that continued to grip him, he staggered from the village, heading the direction he'd first seen Rikki. Perhaps if he got to their camp, it would be ok. As he left the main village, he steps grew slower. ~must go...must go...~ he thought to himself. Gryvon would never forgive him...never. The downward sloping trail drew him. That was where he's seen Rikki and Nraith arrive. As he stood at the crest , glancing back he could see the lights of the village, silence ahead. One step, and another before he began to retch, his balance overcome as he soon tumbled and rolled to the base. "Rikki", he whispered as he stared at the sky, the word drifted into silence as his eyes rolled back into his head. *** Ash clung tighter to Je'raith, his youth even more apparent. "I want Rikki, I want my sister."

Nraith held Rikki, he growled within himself as she seemed to die. He looked as Galventh and Arlianth arrived. He knew of only one way to save her, well, aside from getting that young man.
::Nraith, we can't do it here, we are too exposed:: that was Arlianth, he knew she was right. He took a breath and shifted, lifting Rikki with a talon.
::I will go higher:: He did not wait for a reply, but rose easily into the air, as he did he started the task of keeping the girl alive.
His mind touching hers, but tentacle like arms reached past conscious though, into the involuntary workings of her body as he came to a high cave that would take a long time for anyone to reach except by flight.
landing he released her carefully, but stayed in that form, circling her protectively with his tail as he used his gifts to take control of her breathing, his eyes closed as he kept her alive. This was only a temporary thing. He couldn't make it work without help, she needed to want to live
::hold on Rikki, my rider, Ktal will be with you soon enough::
He hoped.
Aer'alyn peered down, she could see the men as they left the village, then a few moments later she saw Ktal staggering out of the village towards where Nraith's camp had been, she turns towards him.
This would have to be quick, she waited until he was almost at an open path, then started her dive. she descended quickly
::Young Ktal, wait. I will take you to Rikki, something happened when you were hurt, she is not well::
a moment later she would reach out to grasp him with her talon
Je'raith, held tightly to Ash, nodding
"I know Ash, I know. I will take you to her soon"
he looked to Reldai, concern etched on his features
Galventh and Arlianth watched Nraith rise. This was new behavior for him, but she supposed even elders could change. But their gaze shifted to Zyreil, who looked out towards where he had last seen Aer'alyn.
Zyreil would have to explain his actions, though he wasn't sure how. He couldn't fully explain them.

He felt the edge of nail, the rough harness of claw against his arms. The sky swirled around him as he was lifted up. Ktal shivered, half conscious as he gripped his hands tight against her. ~Im dreaming~ he thought as he lolled against her. *** Cold. Dark. A void of nothingness seemed to hold her in thrall. If she stayed in this darkness of cold and nothing, would she survive? Would Ash? Would...would? Who was it? Someone, she remembered someone. His eyes were so blue. Who was it? What was he? Ash? Ash?? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I love you my brother. I love you. *** In groups of two the men scattered, taking trails and hidden caverns upwards, seeking. *** A light, warmth. It was warm. It was Nraith. Oh, she knew him. He was, ...he was.... close. *** Reldai sat beside Ash, brushing her hand lightly against his cheek. "We will not leave you Ash, and we will see Rikki soon. Soon." Her eyes lifted to Je'raith's. "Won't we?" Oddly enough, she felt stronger than she had in years. Why? Was it his presense with Ash? Was it ....a sharing moment?

Aer'alyn rose higher and higher on the thermals, her gaze searched for the men, she growled softly, holding tightly to Ktal
::Zyreil, they come. Many of the them:: she paused and in the distance to the north she could see another threat, oh this was not good
::Zyreil....:: before she could continue he cut her off
::Yes I know, they come to cull the population of this village.::
this made her even more displeased. she rose high and went to the waterfall with Ktal, but rose above him to take the young man to Nraith and Rikki
she landed with ease at the entrance and walked in to set Ktal by Nraith
she didn't look good, but she knew Nraith was more than capable of helping her
she nods to him, then turns to join her family and Zyreil by the waterfall, she remained silent though.
Kez turned away from his original direction, moving instead to intercept the three that were dispatched to the village
::Go back, do not do what you are planning::
He hovered in place, large eyes staring down the younger ones
::But we have orders from the elders, do not interfer::
that made Kez laugh, elders.. they didn't know what an elder was
::I will stop you::
there was no lack of confidence in his gaze and all the years he had lived were held with in them. It was there he revealed who he was to them, the three moved back and away from him. Even together they were no match for him.. they rose up and turned away, for now.
Kez, turned again and headed towards the waterfall. The humans were no match for 5 dragons, but still, he had years beyond any of them and it would be needed.
J'raith looked to Reldai, nodding, he simply held Ash, nodding again. He had never felt anything towards any human, even a simple liking. But this moment was shared? Yes, that was the only way he could describe it. it was as much a dragon moment as it was a human moment. His hand reached over to touch Reldai's arm, offering a soft smile and comfort
"Yes, we will"
it was a promise spoken, he would fulfill it.
Nraith's tail still wrapped about Rikki, his mind still wrapped around hers, still keeping her breathing and heart beating. He scarcely acknowledged Aer'alyn's arrival and departure
::Rikki, He is here. Aer'alyn brought Ktal to you. You must come back.
If Ktal's intentions were to harm, he would know. It would be easy to strike him down in this state, but somehow he didn't think that at all. his blue eyes were glazed over and half closed as he remained still, his wing and tail protecting his rider

Reldai smiled and nodded. Looking again younger than her years she continued to muse silently to herself. "Yes, I believe so, " she whispered to herself. ***
Ktal lay spread on his back where Aer'alyn placed him. The cave slowed it's spin and stopped. He breathed. If he lays quietly it will be alright. He will get he bearings. It will be alright. Yes. It took several long minutes before he felt able to move. Another dragon. Was the land full of them? And where was.. "Rikki?!" he shot up, then groaned deeply as a shaft of pain darted throught his head. "Rikki," he said again, softer. She continued to lay still, the continued presence of Nraith pulling her closer from the cold chill. Nraith. She smiled inside. why did the thought of him make her warm inside? Why did she feel as if she were missing something. It was important. "Rikki?" a soft touch rested against her face. "Rikki?" Ktal looked up at Nraith. "Is she?" he began to ask, before gathering her hand tightly in his, softly repeating her name.

((Hey.. No musing to oneself here!! lol j/k))
He continued to reach out to Rikki, trying to pull her back. His mind linked with hers. He didn't know what lasting effect this would have on either of them, he remembered the last time this happened but the effects were not easily seen.
::Rikki, come back to us::
what he really wanted to say was come back to me, buy why had she become so important? What had happened that he suddenly called her his rider? He must seek another out. In all his long life he had never called another that, not even the other he had helped in this way. And this was important, as it would set them apart from the others - any who had Riders were honored.. oh, he didn't want their honor. He remained in the city most of the time to keep away from their honor, well the version of it today. The younglings didn't know what honor was this day, well most, there were a few and he was happy to associate with them
Ktal's voice came into his hearing, though briefly, the words registering a few moments later, he shook his large head, but would not touch his mind with his own, could not.
He felt the brief touch of another.. J'raith.. yes.. J'raith, but he gave no response.
J'raith smiled in return, then tried to reach out to Nraith, he made no show of the concern except in the dragon link
::Aer'alyn, what's wrong with Nraith?::
::He is tending to Rikki, making sure she is safe:: she didn't give him all the information, though he would piece it together for himself just to what extent Nraith had gone by the very fact that Nraith was unresponsive to the touch ::they are high, in a safe place::
he didn't respond, but he understoond
Aer'alyn remained by Zyreil's side, looking to her Dam and Sire. Zyreil's communication with them silent, words not reaching the ears of others, or through the link. She closed her eyes and rested. she was so tired. This was.. too much today, and now she would face angry villagers for what? Why were they angry? Because someone came and challenged their ways their beliefs. it amazed her how alike the humans and dragons were. They were such a good match for each other it was unbelievable. She would not take a human rider though, that was her determination. She was still coming to grips with the fact that Zyreil was now her mate.
she felt his tail curl around her. He was much larger than she. Blacks usually were of the largest of them, and silvers too.
Kez neared the waterfall, but did not open himself to the link. Instead he landed where they would not see him, shifting to his human form, a staff shimmering and appearing in his hand and a bag at his side - he began to walk. Would he intercept the humans before reaching the dragons? he wasn't sure.
whispered words long since gone and his eyes shifted, appearing human to any human who looked at him. He could not have the appearance of Dragon.

Nraith's presence continue to draw her from the darkness. She was cold and craved the warmth. She felt dry. She thirsted. The water beckoned her, pulling her towards that oasis that she knew was Nraith. He could feel the interior shaking of her body, though outwardly she remained as still as before. Ktal, continuing to rub her hand, tried to will away the throbbing ache in his head. An ache that refused to diminish. ~Nraith~ Rikki tried to speak, calling out to him. ~I'm frightened, do not leave me. Help me, Nraith.....Nrait.....Nrai...~ The shaking that had taken her inside suddenly became visible to both Nraith and Ktal. *** Gryvon, leading Landvi and his brother, saw the man with the staff walking towards them. Still bathed in the overhanging branches, they knew the man had not yet seen them. He silently motioned Landvi deeper so he would not be seen. His suspicious nature back to the forefront, Gryvon did not trust strangers. It seemed, where strangers arrived, so did dragons. From the hidden shadows, Landvi nocked an arrow, waiting in anticipation.

Kez continued to walk. To some he might seem frail and old, but he was not only a dragon but he could fight as a human as well. He had spent 2 centuries crafting his talents and magic. He held back a chuckle, couldn't see them alright, but he could taste their anger and fear the moment he flew within range, even in human form he could taste it - though somewhat muted by the form he took, it was still there. His senses were on high and he prepared for whatever might come. They would not harm him
He spoke as he came around the corner where he could see them fully and they him, "Your going to kill an old man? How daft can you be?" the rumors of an old man who lived up here seemed to be true.. but which rumors? The rumors that he was a crazy old man? The Rumors that he ate little children? or the rumors that he was actually a powerful mage that could turn men into pigs? Did you really want to find out which ones were true? He had been to the village, but only a few had seen him before, clearly these two had not.
His long white hair and white beard flowed in the gentle breeze the moved through the trees, green eyes shimmered softly in the light that now took it's path downward. By all appearances, he was human, even his eyes were human.
"I am Kez"
he bowed softly, the staff of old knotted wood held firmly, the satchel at his side.
Nraith hear Rikki and the fear, he growled outwardly. He knew he had to get aggressive to bring her back. His tail and wing surrounded both Ktal and Rikki, hiding them completely, protecting them should they be found here - that was unlikely, but his instinct to protect was stronger than it had been in almost a century.
::I will not leave you Rikki. I promise! ::
he could feel the shaking and slipped into her mind, to the place where Rikki was at that moment. It was dark, but he brought with him a sliver glow. He was in human form, but his silver dragon form was on the edge, it shimmered in the light. he could not be less than what he was in her mind.. he was dragon with a human form and both were visible, even though he made his human form more so. he called out within her
::Rikki, Come to me! I am here to get you::
he searches for her, his eyes keen and sight as good here as it is anywhere
::Rikki, I can only lead you out! You must come to me! You must take my hand and come willingly. I will not leave you! I will never leave you!::
there he said it. He wanted her to be his rider until one or both of them passed on

~come to me...come to me...come to me......~ his voice echoed in her mind as she seemed to turn in the darkness searching.
"I can't see you," she whispered, the breath of a sound breaking the mist that drifted deep and around her. It was that breath that made the mildest of sound that drew his attention.
She seemed weaker, yet looked the same. Something was different about her that was not readily apparent. Though the darkness seemed to shadow her, she followed the sound of his voice, ~come to me....~
~Nraith, I'm here~

He saw the mist of her breath and moved towards her, she did seem different, but how.. why? Humans were such a mystery, and now he had one on his claws.
::I see you Rikki, I am here::
he drew closer, his form shimmered silver, almost glowing, she would see it easily, unless her eyes were shrouded, he saw her walking to him, following his voice so he continued to call, his hand outstretched until it touched her own
::I have you now. I will not let you go Rikki::
he held tightly to her hand, pulling her close to him without lifting her off her feet, she had to walk, she had to follow him out, that was the only way, in his grip she would find a flow of strength - he had plenty of it to spare.
