He curled in lair, asleep. Three humans moved about the lair doing whatever was required of them. Each one wearing a simple piece of clothing, one piece. Their hair was shaved off or cut very very short and around their necks were collars. each one had a single red light on the back of them.
Slowly his eyes opened. He watched them work - 2 women and 1 man, the rest were else where in the caves doing his bidding. He had 7 slaves altogether, 3 women and 4 men. Then men did the harder work and also worked in the pits, mining for gold. The women, well, they were whatever he needed them to be. He would even enjoy taking control of them like a puppet master making them watch from within themselves as they did horrible things to each other as well as to others that he had brought to him.
This was a side that any rarely saw of him, most thought he was kind and wise. When others came the slaves sang his praise and told how he saved their lives and for that they pledged to serve him until their death. Inwardly he chuckled. Each woman he was joined to as Mate, though their ability to grow the abilities of their mind was reduced by the collar they wore, and they had been mind raped often enough that they retreated from the thought of using their gifts without his permission. He knew their very thoughts.
He watched them, one girl moved and as she passed by it moved him as she always did. She was his favorite. It was easily told by the fact that he rarely took control of her, and she could touch his mind without fear of reprimand.
He reached out to touch her mind and she stopped, turning to him. Usually they wore no smile, even her. Their life was not easy, he made it hell. And while she had his favor, it still didn't lessen the fact that he made her life hell.
~Yes Master?~
A claw reached out to touch her gently, he lifts her chin and smiles only as a dragon can as she reaches out to caress his claw
::Go rest pet, You are tired::
she nodded, then turned and moved to her fur pile in a corner alcove that was off the floor of the cave where he could keep an eye on her, she curled there and turned her back to the cave facing the wall as she always did. She tried not to accept his favor, but it was difficult.
As he watched her try to sleep he felt that touch at the edge of the dragon link. It caused him to growl. Who was that? It has been there for years, but now more than ever its more prominent, and there more often. Since Zyreil awoke and took Aer'alyn as his mate, since they started to defend the humans. He growled again as one of the male slaves moved passed his tail, in frustration he whacked the male to the far wall where he lay stunned and bruised.
No one rushed to him. That would turn the dragon on them as well, but they wanted to.
As the male lay there he stomped out of his lair and took to the air.
As soon as he left, they rushed to their friend, in one case he was joined as mate to another. It was torture for him to endure the nights that the dragon would shift and chose his one to be with. She rushed to him and helped him up, moving him to the furs near that of the other the dragon had sent to rest earlier. Together the two of them tended to the male, until he fell asleep, then both women also went to sleep to rest, each in their own fur pile.
After helping her friends, she moved back to her furs, easing herself up on the rock platform, curling up. Tears fell down her cheeks as she wondered when death would come.
Quietly, she pushed it under the noise that her master was making within the link and she pushed a soft plea.. ~help me.. please~ then she fell asleep, all the while he was unaware of her plea and her pain.

He stood behind Gryvon and the other as they walked away. It was brief and it was quiet, but it was there.. ~help me.. please~.. the words of that tortured soul echoed in his heart and mind, his eyes narrowed... as he remained in thought and his grip on his staff tightened. This was wrong, and it angered him so.
He didn't say anything, didn't make a big fluff about it, but turned, and as he turned and began to walk away, his form disappeared.

~breathe....breathe...~ she told herself slowly trying to ease the tension from her body. She felt him near, and knew if she drew attention to herself he would call on her again. She'd grown more adept at accomodating him without the effort he thought it took her. But the strain that continued nearly unabated was beginning to wear on her.
Again, she kept the stillness as a pocket of silence around her. As she drew on the silence, she again reached out. ~are you there? Can you hear?~
Only force of will and constant practice kept her from flinching, revealing her awareness, when she heard him call to Estacia. ~please, help...~ As tears trickled down her cheek she heard the pained and sorrowful cries of Estacia and felt the deeper sorrow of Estacia's mate.

He decided to take a short trip, glancing back he thought about taking the pet, but she was weary and needed rest. He turned and headed away from his lair. Reaching out to the brood of slaves
::I will be back when the sun sets::
He flew south, he reached out with his senses for other dragons or even humans. Perhaps he could add to his brood, maybe even kill a few. He loved the look on the brood's faces when he got them to hurt another human, especially if it was someone they knew. He chuckled. They would never again share the skies except as slaves and never again would they be in a position to harm dragonkind. It didn't matter that it had been centuries since the others had been killed, it didn't matter that these were not even remotely related to them. He was having his way, they would die or be enslaved.
He caught sight of a smoke rising high and rose higher himself before settling in that direction, wondering if there were any humans still alive there. It was time to hunt.

::I will be back when the sun sets::
She laid still and quiet until she felt him at a distance that she could move more freely. "I hate him, I hate him," she said over and over, her mentally silent words seeming in time with the beat of his wings. She could feel the disdain he had for them, for anyone like her. How had they come to such a pass?
Yes, he mocked them. Taunted them. He never let them forget they lived only by his benevolence...such that it was. How many had she seen die. Even by her own unwilling hand. For a moment, tears shimmered in her eyes before she growled to herself, dashing them quickly away with a swipe of her hands. A moment later they were gripped in fists and she forced herself to stillness again.
The sounds that surrounded her faded into silence as she focused outward. Slowly she probed, touching Him without seeming to do so. Leaving him unawares, his taste for 'his way' blinding him to her quiet intrusion. A moment later she could see beyond, his eyes showing her the land, the smoke ....knowing, as always, what was coming next.

Sometimes he missed flight, but this was so much easier when he was in a hurry. He appeared some distance away, near the village that now burned. Good they were gone. That was a good sign. His eyes went skyward as he felt a presence coming, the presence though.. no
He closed his eyes and opened himself up through the link, reaching out to the one who had been leader of the elder council the last century. He was coming this way. He touched the Gelithron in a way few could. Gelithron might detect him but it was unlikely. It would be more like a fly hanging about his eyes trying to get at the gooey stuff in the corner of his eye. He searched.. there it was again.
But he didn't press it, he didn't let the one know he had seen and retreated from the blackness of his mind
"What do they say? Oh yes.. Yucky.. Ick.. " and he shuddered in utter horror at the darkness and blackness within his mind.
He stepped into the open. Gelithron would see him, but would not recognize him. No, this was for the one watching unseen.
As the Dragon flew closer he bowed his head and nodded in greeting and looked directly into his eyes. He wanted the one watching to know he had heard and he had seen, and he would help.

She froze, seeing the bow, recognizing the acknowledgement for what it was. Slowly she retreated from him, leaving him unware of her actions. As she felt the silence surround her again, leaving him with little idea of what she had done, what she continued to do, she collapsed to her knees.
Her body began to shake, breath coming in gasps as she hugged the furs tight against her body. "Eavi?" She shook her head at the soft questioning tone. "No, I'm ...fine. Go rest before he comes back." she waved her friend away. She knew the closer they appeared, the more he would bedevil them. The worse it would become for them.
But someone heard. Someone knows. Someone can help.
The resulting anxiousness and hope emotionally exhausted her and she curled into the furs. For once, this time...when he returned, she would be asleep.

Gelithron flew closer to the village and he tilts his head as he sees a lone old man standing with a staff. He saw the bow and how he looked directly into his eyes. This made him curious and he circled and soon landed near the old man.
His nose sniffing at him. He smelled human.
He reached out to touch the man with his other senses and still he was as he appeared to be. Human. He did not think otherwise as there was no dragon living that was able to mask who he really was from his own kind.
"You bow, but you do not kneel to me old man. Kneel as you should inferior beast"
as he spoke shadow and smoke seemed to flow from his nostrils. The man did not seem to hear or respond and he put his large face into the face of this old man and growled out
"Kneeeelllll"

He watched as the dragon landed. He showed no fear as he drew close to him and used his senses to determine if he was human or dragon. As always in this form he would to any who were blind appear to be just what he wanted them to see. Reldai knew who he was because she was not blind, most others were. He did not show himself to Aer'alyn or the others that grew close to her because they were not blind either. Most who walked this planet were.
- Especially this black dark dragon. The hatred that his sire and Grandsire and all his line had passed down to him consumed him now. It had changed him as well. Made him more dangerous, but it seemed more vulnerable also. He knew of no other dragon who could ride the link of another and that one be totally unaware. This made him smile just as the dragon leaned in close and repeated the command to kneel.
"Now why would I want to do that? You are not my master, and my master does not permit me to bow to any but him"
He moved the sleeve from his arm to show a mark, it was the mark of another Dragon. Actually is was his own mark. And even though many thought him dead, they respected the mark of a slave's line still loyal to him. Would this one?
Gelithron did recognize it and he growled
"He is dead. You must serve another"
No, he must not, and Kez shook his head, "No, I do not have to. My Master saved the life of my ancestor and took him as his servant and friend. He taught him and showed him his ways, which have been passed down from generation to generation, to me. And I am teaching my own children as well.
There was truth to what he said. Before he went into an unusually long hybernation he did save the life of a human. This human's lineage still lives and serve him, willingly. They bear his mark so that none can take them, and they do not speak of him outside of the lair.
Gelithron growled again. "One day that mark will not protect you.. "
"I am Kez. You are the might Dragon of Shadow Gelithron, one of the primary Elders of the Dragons. You are known to our family. I honor you."
this was simply to feed his ego, which it did as he bowed once more.
Gelithron looked to the human and smiled, "you are a smart one. I can see why your Master chose your ancestor. You must visit my lair one day. You can go through dragon link?"
Kez nods, "yes, my ancestor's bond to the link has been passed down to each generation." Another truth, he was amazed by the humans, especially those who mated with one of the new humans that came. he would fly overhead or visit villages and the men would pick a mate. He would then bring that woman to the male servant and they would be joined. After the first time he did that, their child was born part of the dragon link, and he would take, now any of them as a rider. Though this new couple carried twins. He wondered on that but not now, his attention turned back to Gelithron and his offer, he smiled, oh this was perfect.
"And thank you for the invitation I am truly honored and simply beside myself that you would invite one who is as old as I. Thank you, it means more to me than I can express." stroke stroke stroke of the ego.
Gelithron was simply pleased with himself and smiled, "Contact me when you are ready. Do you have a mate yet?"
Kez looked to him and shook his head, "No she died after our child was born, I have not sought one since." he looked down and took a breath.
"then come and see my servants. Any of the women would be suitable for you" except one, but he would lay a trap. Either he would work his own bond into that of his family line or he would enslave the old man to him. He had extra collars.
Kez didn't trust him any farther than he could throw him in his human form, did he not hear Kez tell him that he taught his slaves their ways? So everything he could do they could do, well except change forms. But all the mind games, gifts and magical abilities were passed from generation to generation. But again.. blindness held this dragon in his own arrogance so he nods and bows. "As you wish" stroke stroke stroke
He watched as Gelithron spread out his wings and lifted into the air, disappearing into the sky. He didn't go back to his lair. This was a good thing. His slaves needed peace.
When Gelithron was out of sight he shifts to his dragon form, wings spread wide he lifts to the air and heads towards one of the city ruins. The one to west, by the great sea.

She'd slept for a time, the low voices around her as they completed their duties drawing her from the necessary sleep. Lightly venturing out upon the thread that kept her linked to ...him....she could feel his exaltation from the interaction with the other one. Where was he? South of the range. Good, he was still quite some distance away.
"Eavi?" She turned, slipping out of the link with him, she smiled at her closest friend. "Yes?"
"You were talking in your sleep again, something about...help?"
"oh, just a dream..." she smiled taking the bowl that was being offered. Gratefully she sipped the soup. She knew it was soup though it bore little flavor and no meat. No, the meat was for him.
As she ate, she thought back on the man. Who was he? As she focused again, the contact became clearer. She felt...he was different. He was not all he appeared. But the clearest thing in her mind was his own emotion, not directed at her....but at Him.
And she smiled.
Somehow, somewhere, a reckoning was coming.
